What is the difference between them? I just got a 5-speed starter and briefly compared it to the auto on that I also have. The look identical. Granted I didn't spend a full day comparing the two, just a quick glance. Does anyone know?

 

There is no difference, they are the same. There is the new and old model strter and that is the only difference. The new one has more teeth on the gear.

 

Why is it said that it's needed for a 5-speed swap? I guess I have an extra starter if anyone needs one.

 

Not sure why they said that. I spoke to someone else who did the 5spd swap and he said he also bought a new starter just to realize later they are the same so he used the old one.
