Good Deal Or Rip Off?

Hey guys.

Just wanted your feed back on a maxima I bought and how much I payed for it. I just got a 1997 Maxima GLE black fully loaded with black leather interior. The car only has 57,000 miles and is in very good condition. My question.. Me paying $9,950 for the car with all sales taxes, and DMV fees.. was I ripped off, or does that sound exceptable? The car is great. I would love your feedback..

Thanks..

I'm picking up a 96 with 77k for less than half that. There is a 98 with 77k for 8500. Anything over 7.5k for a 97 is too much.

Hey, you could have got it cheaper but what the heck. I paid too much for my Maxima and sweated about that for a couple of years, what a waste of time. The car served me with 215,000 miles of service. Focus on the positive, forget the rest. Besides you could have overpaid for an something awful like a Pontiac, then think how you'd feel.

Turn up the music and drive.

not to like steal your thread, but what aobut a 97 se in great condition. with 43k miles stored winters. and it was modded a little for like 9k. the mods are body kit, new suspension, rims, cat-back and intake. along with some other smaller mods like clear corners and such?

every pre-owned max is different, so if you already paid $9950 for it, you must of believed that the car was worth that much.

I bought my 98 last year with 80km (45-50miles) for $13000CA ($8-9k). the car was in an amazing condition and i knew it was well worth the offer. everything was mint, well except that i needed new rubbers, DC bumper light, progress springs, AGXs, FSTB, red/clear tails, .....

enjoy your car bro, i'll love the max

ya

like everyone says, it's not the buy of the century, but it's no rip...it's actually VERY similar to how much i bought my 97 Black Max for (9 G's...then all the tax and fees) mines an SE tho, and only had 50k on it... no leather...but i was picky about having it black and 5 speed and it took me FOREVER to find one in my area, and it wasnt even really in my area, it was like an hour and half away .... oh well ... dont care now

Seems a bit high, but then again you're in NY where most things are more expensive. I'm in central Texas and I bought a 96 GXE with 70K miles two years ago for $6000 but that was a great deal. I managed to get it for NADA (Natl Auto Delears Assoc) dealer wholesale price. Of course they intially wanted 9,500 but I ended up spending 2 hours playing their little car buying game.
Kelly Blue book mentioned above is a good place to turn to. Also look at:
www.nada.com
www.edmunds.com.

Between those three you can get a good idea of your car's value in NY.

I think this should make you feel better. I paid $5300 a year ago for 109,000.
I'm the fourth owner and it was in an accident. Carfax said it was hit from
behind and a police report. The guy was asking for $6500. I told him about
the accident and he owe his dad 8G, so I cut a chunk out of him. The car's in
good condition, other than the 02 sensor problem. F@#$king guy reset the CEL to hide the problem.

Well if they baught it at the auction they paid between 4500-5500 for it. Maybe a lil more for the low mileage. Your car should kelly around 9900-11000.
I got my 97 SE sage mist green w/ tan leather for 6800 and it only had 60k on it. ( i did drive 4 hours to new york to get it, i carfax'd it first ofcourse) Thats a good price man, you get it at a used car place or a dealersnip.

I dont think you got robbed but i would sell my 99 SE: 70kmi, auto, fully loaded, sterling mist, no mods for about $10k.

Not a ripoff but maybe a better deal elsewhere for sure. Dont sweat it.

Welcome to the .org hope the max treats you well.

I just picked up my 98 gxe with 77k for 6500. I thought that was a great deal. It is in nearly perfect condition but it is a stripper though. No power antenna, seat, or wheels/spoiler. I am going to have to add wheels/spoiler and I had to redo the stereo too. It does have the 5speed tranny though and that is all I really wanted. If you got a loaded max from a dealership you probably got a fair price. I like to get my cars from the classifieds to save some money. You probably have some sort of warranty through them which is good too. Check for the knock sensor code right away. I didn't know about it when I bought mine or I could have gotten it a little cheaper probably.

I would seriously consider whether buying a car with mods was worth it. I mean, aftermarket stuff does add to the value of the car sometimes. But often, people who do that drive hard or race their cars. I would rather have some old grandma who took her car to the dealer everytime something went wrong with it(not that I advocate going to the dealer for service).
