Need some answers

This is my first post. Anyway I really love the 4th gen Maximas and I will be getting one in the next two months, I want an SE, with all options besides leather, and ATX, my wife will be the primary driver. Anyway I read all the FAQ and stuff and still have some unanswered questions. i know they have about 190 hp ,but at what RPM, how much TQ and at what RPM. And is there anything that I need to know that is not in the FAQ before I get it, anything to look for in the test drive, or anytime there after.

for max hp and tq go to edmunds.com and check the specs on the car (its decently accurate). and advice for buying a max: just buy it....u'll like it.

but if the car has over 75k miles def ask for previous service records, just to know that they have treated the car the right way. and if anything go to a mechanic and get the car compression tested (unless u know how to do it urself, its pretty easy)

don't buy the first one you run accross... find what suits you!

I had certain things in mind when i wanted mine, but after 8 months of searching it became apparent that finding them all in one car that didnt have 150k wasn't possible, because no one was selling what I wanted. Go figure, they like them too much to sell I guess

I wanted leather, moonroof, 5speed... which is normally found in an SE package altogether; and I ended up finally finding a sweet '97 SE with 49k. Cloth, 5 speed, moonroof, manual AC with a mint interior and better then average exterior for a '97. I happily paid just under 10k for it and have had no regrets, if you see my sig I did all those mods just in july (finally got some extra cash)

Very happy with my car, I like the SE trim much better then GLE/GXE. I Hate all that extra chrome on the door trim, handles and grill ... too fugly IMHO.

Interestingly enough, my title lists my trim/package whatever you want to call it as GXE... but my year has no badges and the seller said it was an SE, and the trim and equipment tends to lean towards SE; anyone have any input on that?

Cool, thanks, there actually is one that is perfect, 97 white SE, auto, cloth, bose, sunroof, 80k, perfect condition, new tires, $9k etc. I need to test drive it, but i won't be able to afford it for about 2 more months and I'm pretty sure it will be gone before then. Wow 205 lbft of torque at a nice rpm mmmmm. I love torque, which is also why I dislike Hondas Compression tests are always good, I used to work at Ford Performance Specialists (specializes in Ford Taurus SHO's) in Douglasville, Ga, and have performed many a compression test. Oh and I've only rode in one Maxima, a 96 SE,all I remember is my aunt screaming at my uncle when he hit 120 mph, rather quickly I might add. Thanks again for the info.

Yeah.. I drove 9 or 10 max's before I bought mine. I used to love to screw with the dealers. Drive the car real hard.. WOT, hard swerving, hard braking, etc.. waaay too much fun. Even if I wasn't interested in buying the car I would test drive it. I got a pretty good feel for cars weren't driving the way they should.

if you get one with bose the speakers will go pretty soon in a '97 and then you're in for a pain in the ***.

the speakers use an amp so the head unit doesnt send power like regular aftermarkets, so you would either have to use the bose headunit and run it through an amp to power aftermarket speakers, or replace the head unit and all 4 speakers.

just some food for thought, bose might not always be better. I just replaced my 6.5's in the doors and cut holes for 6x9's in my deck and kept my factory head unit, sounds good enough for me.

You have to test whether or not the car will shift if the clutch somehow fails.. right?
