exhaust pipe heat sheilds rotting off??

Hey guys,

I noticed today that the heat sheilds that is wrapped and clamped around the exhuast pipe which runs right behind my rear passanger tire is all rusted and is starting to dangle. I removed it so that it doesnt rattle or put a cut in my tire, but now my exhaust pipe is exposed.

I was wondering if I should replace them or should i just let it be and it will be ok? What did you guys do?

-Ken

dont worry about it, its fine. The only heat shield thats somewhat important is the catylic convertor heat shield so you dont start grass fires

Mine dropped off as I was driving up a quiet two-lane street. The metal clanging sound scared the hell out of me, and then I also got a nice metallic thunk as it bounced back into the underside of the car. So I had to use my umbrella to beat off the other half, which was dangling off the y-pipe.

But my flex section is also starting to split, so it should be y-pipe time for me soon anyway. I think any shield rotting off or falling off is a sign of deterioration. You might poke around under there and see if anything else needs attention (cat heatshield, flex section, etc.)

Good luck,
TOM
