Automatic Tranny problem! Difficult to shift to park

Well I have had this problem for some time now, however, recently it has gotten worse and has occured more frequently. Lately I have found it difficult to shift in to PARK(i have to really push the **** into park, or put it in to Nutral for a few seconds then it glides into park smoothly).

The other day I couldin' t start my car so I called my towing service after trying to boost it. When the guy came to tow it he told me that it was strange that the car would not even turn over since I had a new battery and starter. He proceeded to tell me to stick the car into Nutral and then the car started without a boost on its own. He told me that the safety switch was on therefore I could not start the car when it was in park. He told me that this was because of my tranny filter being clogged the safety was going on and the car would not got completly into park.

I am not sure if this is true? Anyways today is when I really got scared. I tried to put the car into PARK from DRIVE. This time I had to put a LOT of force to stick it into PARK, but it did not feel as if it was all the way in PARK. I proceeded to play around with the gears when I found it diffucult to go into any gear. ie. PARK,REVERSE,DRIVE etc....

Could my tranny be really messed? I put in 4 litres of Royal Purple Automatic Tranny fluid about 15, 000km ago, but I did not change the filter for some stupid reason. Anyways, the problem just started now so it cant be because of the fluid.

The tranny changes gears perfectly other than this problem. So is this something major to worry about? Is my tranny going?

If anyone could please diagnose this problem it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Sounds like the shift cable linkage is messed up.

If you're standing in front of your car looking at your tranny....you'll see a cable coming under the intake, next to tranny fluid dip stick, and running down do a "plate" type looking gear.

There's a bolt that holds it in place....that bolt may have come out. I'll take a pic tomorrow and show you more clearly.

Yea definately sounds like shifter cable so dont worry too much about your tranny being shot. By chance do you have in Injen intake? On Autos the filter tends to get caught on the shifter linkage.
