e-brake question

i'm sorry if someone answered this question previously but the search function won't work so i can't find out. well my e-brake wont work. i can't even move the handle up. i was wondering if this is due to my parking cable or something else. also, i feel like my car isn't accelerating as fast as it used to b/c i think the ebrake is on but i think that's just my head playing mind games with me, or is it? =P any input will help. thanks!

What octane do you put in your tank? I dunno, check the cable where it connects to the ebrake.

well i always put in premium until this past year. i started putting regular since my car was getting old and gas prices were soaring, but i recently changed back to premium this month again. i was looking at the owner's manual and it suggested octane of 91 or higher. =P

i tried looking for the cable but i couldn't find it. where is it exactly located? i looked under the driver's side but i couldn't see anything.

Ok friend, jack the car up on the back, and remove either rear wheels. Inspect parking brake cable for any tear( here is a link to what to do if it is a parking brake tear problem :http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/303). A tear in the parking brake cable usually occur from morons crimping your cable on lifts. If there is a tear , go to the dealer and get a new one. It is about $ 100 , but Jerry Rome nissan may sell it for less. Do not be affraid to do this install , on a scale of 1-10 , it is a 7. I am hoping that this is not your problem ...... Do check to see if your brake fluid level is ok. If it is below normal and your brake pads are fine , then it could mean that your brake master cylinder is leaking, this is just a thought.
I am not a mechanic , so use my input as you see fit.

There is a guy , in Long Island , I think his name is Jeff who does work for the maxima community. I do not have his number , but ask around someone will give it. I am confident that you can do this repair youself. I am going to quickly explain what I did .
First , get a Buddy to stand by(he/she will be assistant "Back yard mechanic", who will pass you rachets , sockets and a cold glass of ice tea ) ;remove the wheel of the affected side( jack it up and use some jack stands and chock your wheels). Release parking brake , and release clip that is attaching the cable to the spring. You will see what I mean when you look at it. Tools are needed , so get yourself a little kit from Sears . I do not remember the exacts sockets that I have used. Now that you have released the cable from the caliper side, remove all brackets that is holding up the cable to the frame of the car. Let the fun begin, get under the car and trace the parking brake cable; remove the heat sheilds around the exhaust piping to see where the cable goes One of the heat shields will have to bend to be removed , with a little effort. After you have removed all the heat sheild, you will see the end of the cable attaching like a bicycle cable (the cable has an end like a "T" that goes into a hole of a bracket) , pop it out and you are done. Repeat the steps backwards to re-install the new parking brake cable.
It is not as bad as it sounds. I can do it in under 10 minutes if I have the car on a lift. If you are not up to the task , get it done at a shop.

Good luck and lets know how it goes.
