I did the rewire mod on my corner lamps 3 weeks ago. Last night, the driver side bulb went out. First thing I noticed when I was pulling the lamp assembly out was that the lense was unusually hot...hotter than it normally would w/o the rewire mod. Second, when I pulled the socket out, a slight fume, like a burning smell, was emitting from inside the lamp housing. Third, the wiring harness was unusually hot as well. And forth, the bulbs have one big black spot around where the filaments are, perhaps the filaments are beginning to burn thru the glass. I figured the rewire mod isn't probably good for the long term use as it can probably do the following: burn the harness, generate so much heat inside the lamp housing that it could crack the lenses, overheat the bulbs so much causing it to explode inside the lamp housing, and perhaps cause potential electrical issues. This began to scare me so I have reverted back to the stock bulb setup. Those of you who have done this might want to check on your corners too.
Has anyone in here experienced something similar above? As of now, I bought an OEM 1157 replacement in amber since I have reinstalled my stock (amber) bumper lamps. So I got the amber thing going now, with the 9007 mod + arctic white Nokia bulbs. What's another alternative besides the corner lamp rewire? I saw some overwattage 1157 bulbs made by APC but I'm afraid I'll run into the same symptoms and might end up making things worse for myself. I know that in the future, I'll have to go for the 97-99 headlights + PCP euro corner lamps (with Polarg bulbs) but that'll be after my front end conversion is done. But for now, what's a good alternative for the 95 corner lamps if theres any?

Have you noticed the lamp lenses get really hot? Have you visited your corner lamp bulbs lately? Have you felt the harness and are they hotter than usual?
I'm just wondering if running the brighter filaments continously (versus only when the turn signals are activated) would eventually cause some problems. I'm pretty sure wires shouldn't run hot like that all the time.
