A piece of the plastic around my cigarette lighter was broken, so I bought the plastic piece that goes all the way around the cig lighter, ash tray, and stick. The leather around the stick is attached. To remove the old piece, I need to take my stickshift *** off. Does it unscrew, or pull off, or what? Thanks.

It turns off. But it is on there VERY well. This is what I did...wrap it with a towel, 2 layers. Get some pliers that are big enough, and twist. The towel is so you dont mess up the shifter leather. When looking down on the shifter, i believe it turns counterclockwise to remove. Try the other way if it doesn't come off.

The factory uses a tenacious thread sealer on the end of the shifter rod. Eat a bowl of wheaties before tackling this job.

Looking down on the shifter, definitely turn it counter-clockwise. I did not wrap the shifter in a towel, but I used slip on rubber protectors that were made for my Sears Robogrips. This protected the leather fine. I used plenty of imaginative swearing combinations getting the shifter off!
