How much should I expect to pay far a new 5SPD transmission

I can feel it starting to go I know its going to breakdown any day now it has 126k on it. I was just wondering how much I should expect to pay and if I should get a new or rebuilt one.

its gonna be about 1500 dollars, I just bought one.
It cost me 2500, for a new transmission, a new exedy clutch, new brakes all the way around, new wheel bearings up front, sprak plugs, and a oil change. This included labor.

A brand new one from Jr nissan would be around $1700 (use "maxima" promo code) plus shipping. Why do you say it's going? What is happening? Are you sure the clutch isn't just slipping or something like that?

I would probably try and find a rebuilt one. The one car I've had that had a tranny go had a 5 speed (it was an accord), and the transmission shop found a rebuilt/junk yard tranny for a fraction of what a new one cost. Also, you'll get this done cheaper at an independent mechanic than nissan.

I took it to the transmission guy this morning and he got back to me. He said that the transmission is fine for now but the bearings are going and it is leaking at the axel. but now they want 500 just to take it out and really find the exact problem. also the 500 will go towards the final bill. is this a good deal. Also I will not have the money until after the 28th of this month so I will have to drive it sometimes. I know that is not good but I need to get to work.
Thanks for the replies.

Read the faqs and motorvate about the diffy bearing problem...no need to find out "the exact problem." If they rebuild it, be sure to really ride them about the shimming thing (as described on motorvate).

No. Almost positive you have what many of us have had: bad differential carrier bearings. If you pay the $500, they basically have you hooked and can quote you a high price to fix the thing knowing at the very least they have you for $500.

If they are not a highly recommended shop, I would not even trust them to fix the bearings properly. In that case, I would just as soon buy a used 5th gen tranny or get a used VLSD tranny--if you can do the swap yourself, great... otherwise find a shop that you trust that can do a clutch job and give them the tranny to reinstall--it should NOT be any more cost to put that up.
