Who has a 5th gen. 5 spd. tranny in their 4th gen?

I need some questions answered for the guys that have swapped a 5th gen. 5 spd. tranny into their cars, or for those that have looked into that option seriously. My tranny's being replaced through the dealer that I bought my car from, so I've been exploring my options. After finding out that the 5 spd's found in 4th gen. and 5th gen. maxima's are the same, I want a 2000+ tranny swapped into my car. I know that Nissan doesn't sell 4th gen. tranny replacements that are brand new, but I don't know if they sell the 5th gen. 5 spd's brand new. And if they do, how much do the tranny's run? Thanks guys...

Lou

I have one in my car...New I dont know but its probably upwards of 2K maybe even more.

call some junkyards around and get some prices or even better go online Car-parts.com and do a search

a 01' 5spd tranny can be had from anywhere from 10K-40K miles for $600-1000...I just got mine with 10K miles for $800 with an axle

I bought a busted tranny for $200 and had it rebuilt (all gears & synchros) for another $800. Even with install it was cheaper than dealer pricing.

2nd and 3rd gear and stronger and the 5th gen trannys have no reported differential carrier bearing failure

My transmission's shot as it is, and is in need of replacement. I'm trying to work with the dealer, since my car is under warranty to find out the best solution. I told him that I won't put anything less than a '98 in my car due to the faulty trannies found in the '95-'97 models that most likely won't be fixed when undergoing a rebuild. I'm basically researching my options. Oh yeah, 5th gen's I know have LSD, sweet...

man. i have the stock tranny in my 95 and have yet to have any trouble. was the SE tranny any beefier? i think i will have to add in the switch to a 5th gen tranny to the rest of my mods since i dont wanna get the power and not be able to plant it.

what all goes into a swap. sounds like it is pretty much a direct replacement.
