99 Maxima SE-L SRS light blinking

I have already looked in to FAQ/TSB threads. But I still have a couple of qustions. I'm sure it would have been discussed in the past. And I don't want to repeat the questions if it were already discussed. Since I don't have permission to search, could someone please post the search results on this problem?

Thanks a lot

If it has side air bags, its probably the culprit. I have had both sides replaced. POS!

Thanks for your reply. Yes, it does have side airbags. I bought it used and from the previous owner's service history looks like they had this problem within months after buying it new and the dealer had done some work on side airbags.

One of the TSB's(for earlier models) talks about a weak battery could lead to this problem as well. I would like to know if it could also happen with 99 maxima. I know my battery is due for replacement. Wondering if a new battery would solve this problem.

Also I read about the reset procedure. I would like know if I do the reset and if there is a genuine problem with SRS, would the light start blinking again?

Take it from someone who has been resetting for more than 1/2 per year--I believe that there is an intermittent problem, but I don't believe a service would fix it because I have had them fixed when the car was under warranty already. So why waste $$$ only to have the problem come back if you're out-of-warranty? There is a known problem to Nissan imho, hopefully someone will take the time to file a complaint against Nissan, and nobody on this forum will buy another one. It's not worth it to me because my car is over 6 years old. I truly believe that when the computer is reset, and the light does not come back, everything is fine. When the lamp comes back, somewhere along the line there was a problem again. Like I said, I don't believe the computer check in real-time. Look at it this way, you know how when the power goes out your microwave flashes? That means something went wrong at some time, but it doesn't mean the microwave is not working at the current time. That's how I think the airbag lamp works--the flashing means something was wrong at some time, and it will keep flashing until reset.

I tried calling 1-800-nissan1 and they said it was the first they heard of the "side-airbag" problems....supposidly it has never been an issue or even brought to their attn....but they said if its out of warranty there is nothing they can do. I would just call and call and call.

It's blinking after reset by the dealer a couple of months ago. Last time I tried the reset procedure myselft and it did not work. So I had to pay the dealer to reset it.

Has anyone here successfully reset a blinking SRS using the procedure? Does the dealer reset it in a different way? I really don't want to pay the dealer this time just to reset it. Any help would be appreciated.

Frank, do you usually reset it yourself or go to the dealer?

Isn't it amazing, I read my own post on this thread, so my lamp must have started blinking in 2/04, and here we are in 6/05. I'm still resetting it. Now it's been about 1 mo. since I did it--very unpredictable. Because prior to one month ago, I reset it at least 4 times in a week.

I do it myself because it's no use paying the dealer to reset it. If you take it to the dealer, just do the work which is expensive. I don't even know why they would reset it, don't they tell you what's wrong when they charge you? When it was under warranty, I got a printout stapled to my receipt, it was the harness on the pass side airbag.
