So i'm going back to school soon so to be on the safe side I took my Max that I've had for about a month but just got registered last thursday to the dealer to get a used car inspection. Well Woody at the dealer gave me a call and said that my engile has an oil leak somewhere (I cant remember) and that was 1150 to repair and my front axle or cv joints( Cant remember that either) is torn and that 850. He proceeded to tell me about some other stuff but after those two I can jus didnt listen to the rest. I'm goin to pick the car up tomorrow and I'll get a write-up with all the info so I can update you guys and lemmie know how much this stuff should actually cost.
Yahp your getting jipped. Take it somewhere else for the CV boot or Axle repair.
30 dollars per wheel for CV boot kit (Parts)
65 Per wheel for (Axle) Rest is labor.

Total crap. This is why I generally won't go to Nissan unless it's something I really need their specialty with. Bring the car to an independent mechanic and stress the fact that you have so little money that you don't even know what repairs you can afford, so you want just the bare minimum. Then go with what they say.
In regards to the oil leak why would you pay $1150 to get that fixed? Nissan wanted $500 on my 93 sentra 18 months ago to fix an oil leak. Fug that, says I. So, 30k and 18 months later the leak never got worse. I saved myself $500. So you get a little oil on the ground? I've heard, and it's not something that will frequently occur, that an oil leak can get in with your clutch and cause slippage, but I simply would not pay $1150 for an oil leak repair.
The thing with cars is if you go in to a dealership and ask if anything is wrong with the car, _they will find something wrong with the car_.

on that. They are seriously ripping you off, and thats how dealerships do it, they have to make as much profit as they can with that ever they can.
For the ammount they are charging you I got my tranny changed and a new clutch. And I bet you most of that cost is labor, cause we all know the parts dont cost that much, but they want to milk you for as much labor as they can.
Sadly no matter where you got there going to try and stiff you, just independant mechanics are less likely too as they need to keep constant business or they will shut down.
Nissan dealerships are nothing but a bunch of pirates. Doing 110mph, I lost the side reflector light housing, bulb, and connector. Just to have that replaced (connector and installed). $60.
The dealers will go to any extent to rob you, just because they think that you don't know anything about your car. I strongly believe you should only take your car to the dealership when it's last resort.

Well the only purpose of me takin it to the dealer was to get the inspection and find out everything that was wrong. I had no plans on having them fix anything. But even though those prices where from the dealer they scared the hell outta me. I'm gonna find a good mechanic in my area to take care of it. But how much should I be spendin for the axle with labor???

Since i work at a dealership the reason service cost's are so high is simple. 1 Brand certified mechanics get a minimum of $65 an hour (from what i've been told) The prophit also goes towards helping the dealership out when they have to push invintory (ie: big sale) So if they blow out 30 cars @ or below invoice they still make a prophit.
The industry is gonna get a rude awakening in the next few years. its gonna happen And lucky for me i'll be a finance manager then =D

The first time I went to the dealer for any type of repair was only to find out exactly which sensors I needed replaced, come to find out I had a recall and got them replaced for free. That was cool, then, one morning I get ready to head to work and I am hearing a loud constant squeek coming from the engine bay. Check it out and notice the pulley was shaking very roughly and it looked as though the belt could slip off at anytime, since it was so early I went to the dealership since they were the only ones open. The guy looked at it and said it shouldnt be more than $200. So, since I didnt want to chance anything worse happening to my baby if that belt were to come apart I decided to go with it. I got there before it opened and was the second person there so im thinkin I will get it done fairly soon. Almost 2 hours!!!! go by, im in uniform missing work, so I as whats up. They told me they are just getting her in. I look over and I see a sign, "oil change in 30 minutes or less or the next is FREE!!!" So of course they do not want to give away free oil changes and they take those first even though I have been waitin for hours before these people even show up for the frickin oil change. Finally someone comes out and tells me its going to be about $450. $450!!! the quote more than doubled! But hell, I had been there for 3 hours already and I do not want to risk anything popping so I went with it. In the end, I waited over 4 hours for something that could have been easily taken care of in less than an hour and the final price was $480+ (almost half was labor,
.) So, screw them, the first experience was cool, the last was crap.
.) So, screw them, the first experience was cool, the last was crap.I got the write up today and I would never go to a dealer to get anything repaired. I was lookin at their labor times. 2.1 hours to change the front brake pads. 2.5 hours to change a starter. 120.50 each for hoods shocks (50 for both on ebay). I wanted to slap the **** outta the service rep just for showing me the prices.
hahahaha...those quotes are scary. For axles around here in sa, go for about ~$150 installed
