HELP!! Engine is shot, need advice

Hey guys
I have a 97 gxe max with 96,000 miles on it. it's been sucking oil so i took it to a shop today and found out either my head gasket is leaking or my piston rings are disentigrating.. either way i need a new engine or a rebuild.

I was wondering if you guys had ever heard of a max engine just getting totally screwed like mine with only 96,000 miles.. i wanna know why this happened from u experts. thanks a lot!!
Also, should i rebuild? or get a used motor?

Thanks,
David

I would get a used engine with less miles if it was me. Maybe a later year. As for the oil issue? Yah heard of it on other cars besides max's due to owner negliegence.

Negligence? I always kept the oil level up, regular oil changes and such. What did i neglect to do?

Maybe before you bought the car the other person didn't really take care of it. I dunno its hard to tell. Its mechanical, nothing is perfect in this world. I wish it was.
