Auto trans resistor

Here's my problem. '97 Maxima A/T. The tranny is slipping and shifting hard. I had the same problem about 5 years ago and the dealer determined it was a drop down resistor (A/T resistor). It is mounted with one bolt on the front of the left strut tower in the engine compartment with a two wire snap connector on it. There is a value assigned to the resistor. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THE VALUE IN OHMS IS OF THE RESISTOR OR POSSIBLY MEASURE IT AND POST A REPLY????
It runs about $60.00. Trying to save a couple of bucks and/or the possibilty of replacing the tranny. I tried disconnecting it and there was no change in the shifting. Had the vehicle in at a Nissan dealer, but I am having misginings on their tests. They want $3500 for a new tranny. I can have it rebuilt for $1700 if it is indeed bad.

I have 160,000 miles on the veh. Great car only replacements so far have been the exhaust, tires, brakes, starter alternator. Normal wear and tear items.

disconnecting it is the same as the drop resistor going bad, it will stay on hard shift all the time no matter what. i checked my haynes manual and it does not give any information on the drop resistor.

12 Ohms.

If you're unsure..you can always rig one up from radioshack. The sell white brick type resistors. Think they sell 'em in 1 and 10 ohm configs. Wire up them in series and replace. They won't hold up well (they burn up after awhile), but it's a cheap double test.

Your first test should be an ohmmeter of course.

Thank you for the number. Just what I am looking for. I have my DMM ready for tomorrow morning. I'll test if B-4 coffee. I'll let yu know how it turns out. Thanks for the suggestion on the Radio Shack resistor sub, that may be step 2.

I had the same issue with my tranny , hard shifts from 1st to 2nd , check engine light with 1205 code
it turned out to be droping resistor - a mere $60 part cost me lots of stress at local dealership
they misdiagnised the problem and wanted to take me on $700 ride by installing new shift solenoids
