5 Speed Conversion: Complete!

Well after 3 weeks of downtime of the car, my Max is now a manual. For those who are contemplating whether to do this or not, if it's too hard or not... Do it. It's worth it. The difference with auto and 5spd is truely night and day. (Even tho i'm still breaking it in)

For the 3 weeks i've been working on it, most of the time was waiting for parts to arrive. Total hours i've acually spent on the swap is about 10 - 15 hrs total. The hardest part was running the clutch lines, because I had ABS. I only found out later that the clutch lines had a leak. So I fabbed up a custom straight line to the slave, this eliminated the top bleeder.

I followed Hal's conversion instructions, all in all they were really helpful. Only thing he left out was that you need to remove the automatic pilot bushing in order to fit the manual pilot bearing into the crank.

congrats man! We had a list of people that did conversions, someone needs to find that list and add your name to it.

BTW, isnt that bleeder not being used the master cylinder bleeder? What happens if u have air in your lines and want to bleed?

Congrats man!
Now there is another 5spd Crimson Blaze maxima on here. ha ha
You have thrown a ton of money at your car, but it looks great.

Long live the black leather interior with the RED!

Great job on the 5spd swap.. I would suggest that you replace that hard line with a SS line. I would be cautious using that hard line, with the engine and trans rocking back and fourth, the line my break.

I found everything from a salvage yard, I bought new axles, and a new clutch, clutch cylinder, all totaling about $1100

I directly connected one line from the master cyl to the slave.. So I just bleed from the slave if there were any air in the lines.

Congrats man!

It wasn't done on my red Maxima. I picked up a 95 GLE for DIIIIRT cheap, and I did it on that. The red Max is unfortunately no longer mine, it was given to my sis, who just started driving. But a whole new project awaits

I and a few others have done the same thing. It turns out that brake lines have exactly the right fittings to connect to both the slave cylinder and the steel line from the master cylinder.

I never changed the pilot bushing on my car, so its not necessary to change them .

Havent had a problem for 2 years...also I ran the old lines similar way to yours but with all the original lines, until two of my lines blew. I've installed it the stock way, removed the abs and reran all the lines and it feels better (maybe?). it's just a pain to remove everything and reinstall it....

I didn't want to remove everything to take the original lines back out, I left them in. The custom line came in a 4 foot length and you can bend it to any direction. That cost me $3...
