Buying a 99 maxima...
hey guys,
im new to this forum + maximas.
i've been looking for a car, and my sister is interested in a 1999 maxima SE. it has power everything, s/roof, 50,000 miles, great condition.
anyways, is this a good car is basically what i'm asking. reliable + modding wise... we're probably going to buy it around 6pm tonight, so any advice would be helpful..thanks
also, the dealer put on Nitto tires (not sure which kind) and when you press the brakes to slow at say 30-20 mph there is kind of a lot of road noise..anyone familiar with this who have wheels?

how much $, for modding u can do alot but if your looking for top performance u dont want the 99 u cant touch the ecu, anyways besides the coilpacks the car is really relaible, theres alot of cosmetic mods u can do to just checkout sites like custommaxima.com, depends how much $$$ though, if ur not worries about peformance get it if u are get a 95 96 but i think our cars are fast enough, wat kind of tranny?
It is a great car with low miles. Ive only had problems with my coilpacks going, which are about due to be replaced on the nissan youre looking at. Coilpacks are ~$55/each. If it is a god price go for it. It is the last good looking Maxima nissan made. With really low miles too.
Im guessing youre sister doesnt have the absolute maximum performance in mind, in that case the 'no ECU upgrade' issue is not an issue. The car will still push you back into your seat stock, and even more so after ~$500 in exhaust work. The 95/96 people are just jealous because their car has an ugly front end and high miles. Go for the 99.

I have had no trouble in my 99 SE-L in the 17 months I have had it now. I have put a little over 35k miles on it, and it is still just as tight and reliable as ever. Mine obviously has high mileage now, but that sounds like a great car with low miles. If the price and color are right, I say go for it.
im impressed with mine every single day, an extremely fun car. i got 85k on mine and already done knock sensor and coil packs. the noise your hearing might just be a layer of rust on the rotors if its been sitting for a while, it will wear off quickly. oh and watch out or youll end up like the rest of us and spend all your free time working on the max or on the .org. haha
A '99 with only 50K!!!! Thata a blue light special K-Mart shoppers
Whoever owned it didn't hardly drive...at all.
I purchased my '99 Max GLE in December of '98 and have loved every minute of owning it. Currently the odometer reads 145,xxx and she runs strong. Maintain it and it should run for many, many more years. I hoping for at least 500K out my Max. As long as they don't want an arm and a leg for it but it.

thanks for the posts, sorry i didn't get a chance to come back on it in time...
its got an automatic transmission, which isn't too sluggish, lol... its got a pearl white paint job, flawless interior/exterior. paid 10,000 for it. not a bad deal at all...its nice when you meet the GOOD / NICE people in the car business... not those car dealer guys that just want to get rich off of you..
anyways, performance wise, i don't think much more than an intake and exhaust system (any brands you can suggest would be helpful..) im going to check out the clear corners (below the headlights) for now, then get it tinted..
i'll post some pictures of it later when i get a chance.

99 is a great year. Wondering when everyone noticed the coil pack problem on their ride? (mileage) I've got 95k on mine. Put about 45k on this car and the packs are still holding up. Now that I've got that out, my coil packs will certainly go out soon.
Love my MaX.... Got it new in 99, have 130k on it and have only changed out the normal wear items on it. You'll be very happy with it.
A little off topic but whats the deal with the coil packs? I havent had a problem with mine yet. When do they usually go/when should they be replaced?
