Intermittent Stereo Problem

Intermittent Stereo Problem
I've got a completely original stereo in my 98 SE. It isn't the Bose system but the standard system with Tape and CD. My problem is that occasionally it stops working. The radio bands have no sound and the CD is quiet and has a lot of static. I have not had a tape available to see what the sound is like from that source. After a period of time there will be an audible pop from the speakers and it will all come back and sound fine. Sometimes the problem is there when I start up and other times it happens while driving. Has anyone had this problem? Is it a loose wire somewhere or a problem with the head unit? ( I am kind of hoping for a head unit problem so I can replace it with something that will play mp3 cds.)
Thanks.
Thanks.

Yea, I am having problems with my 96 OEM Bose. Unlike your problems though, my cd player thinks it has a cd in, when it actually doesnt. Reading CD ERROR. My radio works if the cd player doesnt think its loaded.
I wonder about the grounding solution.
Oh, I dont mean to steal your thread.
Just maybe we can find some frickin solution together.
