It's true that you can do this. There really is no power advantage just that it's a different muffler for the 4th gen. Brudaddy has one on his car. Try getting a hold of him, he'll be more informative on the subject.
actually, me and a mechanic at a cole muffler shop just did it. It requires modifying the piping on the 5th gen muffler and he had to cut off that flange on the 4th gen pipe (b-pipe?), The guy had to weld it back together afterwards. I was sitting in a muffler shop with the guy trying to figure it out. It's not that hard but it's really cheap to get it done professionally. I paid 30 bucks for the install. Good luck. I ended up removing the right side tow hook because it was banging a bit over bumps and that solved the problem. Man it has such a throaty deep tone on WOT. You hear that flap thing open as the sound changes. When it's not WOT, there is not change in the volume at all.
Some info about the muffler at
"variable capacity muffler derived from the one on the high performance Nissan Skyline GT-R. A special muffler flap valve, using high temperature aerospace spring technology and materials, opens at 2,000 rpm and above - reducing exhaust system backpressure. These changes helped increase the engine's horsepower from 190 to 222 and torque from 205 to 217 ft-lbs, versus the 1999 Maxima."

Obviously we don't see the 30 HP/12 lb-ft increase from just the muffler but my butt dyno feels just a tad more throttle response in the lower gears. (take that for what it's worth). It's the sound and style that makes it worth it!

From what year did you get that muffler? I would kind of like to eventually do this but I can't decide if I want the 00-01 SE? muffler with the oval thing around the tips like brudaddy or the ones with just the regular tips like yours.
