Yeah i've heard this too... it's like a supercharger but much much much softer, for me. I can only hear it with the radio off and when I'm sitting in the back seat. I dunno what it is though, bleh.

its most likely your intake.

did you fabricate it yourself? my friend made his own custom CAI for his mustang and it started whistling because of a leak. make sure everything on your CAI is secure.

I know that after installing my intake, a nice whistling sound started coming through but definitely sounds like its coming from the front. Think its coming anywhere in the exhaust system?

I get a slight whistling sound from my A/C when it's on. I believe it is just the fan.

Do you have a system in the back? cause my friend just got that fixed in his Galant... the person that custom made the box for him and wired the system f*cked up... everytime he'd accelerate you'd a hear a whistling sound... (needed to be rewired.. he ended up busting 1 sub)

It wouldn't hurt to jack up the front of the car and then get under it and feel for leaks. You could even have someone sit in the car and rev it, in and out of gear to see if that makes a difference.

this one seems to be my problem, because it only happened after my audio guy rewired my system and adjusted my gaines, so just MAYBE thats it...i say maybe only because i just noticed it, i almost never drive with no music in my car...and the whistling sounds like its coming from the back of the car not the front....so i dont think it would be the intake, almost sounds like its in the back seat of the car...

hole, in the exhaust, before the muffler (even possibly in the muffler outer casing), is another possibility.

look for rusty areas that may have a small hole or corrosion areas thatwould leak air.

i get this same sound, its kinda like a winey, squeaky sound but it could be described as a whislign sound, its only happens to me when i press the gas between 1000-2000 rpm and also makes the sound when it drops from 2000-1000 rpm, and i dont have a system in it at all, what rpms are you getting your sound at??/

it could be a bad ground or alternator noise from a custom stereo install

you do not neccisarly have to have an aftermarket stereo at all to get alternator noise, when i first bought my max it had bad alternator noise, just ran a new ground to my factory radio and it went away..

what happens is sometimes grounds go bad .....or if u have a wire hanging and now it is touching metal u will hear a whistling because the current travels through the car and thats y u hear it....if u have a custom stereo u might just have grounded ur amp or deck in a bad spot but good enough for it to turn on and u heare alternator whine through speakers....also if u have an amp ur ground wire maybe too long .......it can be all sorts of stuff.....go back and check that wire u had hanging either get rid of it if u can or ground if to the chassis.....

I had this same problem and it was basically becuase my ground was too close to my speaker wires that were running from the back of my car... I moved the wire over to the other side of where they were and it went away.

Hehe yea it took us a few days to figure out the whistling was coming from this kids system in the back.. as someone already posted there was a grounded wire... he had his system installed for free w/ free custom box but the guy that did it f*cked up :-/... being that it was free there isn't much he could do.. he took it to a pro though and got a box made half the size of the other and the problem fixed for like 250$ :-/..

i don't know much about systems, it's just this thread caught my eye before because as i stated my friend has the same problem.

ask admin to post this thread in the car audio section / go to a pro and have him check it out.

- good luck to you

I had this same problem and it is the ground wire for my subs. It has actually happened twice. The first time I just tightened the ground. The second time I removed the bolt, sanded the area, and retightened with a lock washer. I have not had the problem since.

i have 5spd no mods and have the same whistling sound, only when the car is in gear, in neutral it goes away. i asked a mechanic from firestone and he said that its normal for these types of cars with 5spd. so i stopped worrying about it.

well it happens now even when the car is idle i hear it a little, so as soon as i turn the key i start to hear it, which leads me to think its an electrical problem with my system somehow....

well it looks like it may be the subs, or something like that, i have four wires loose, just hanging in my trunk coming from my subs i believe, should i ground these without knowing what they are or what they do? and isnt that dangerous to just have wires hanging there? should i go back and shoot the guy that installed my system?
