Stone Wheels Anyone?

Just wanted to share my latest mod. I took my 16" stock wheels and painted them with graphite grey wheel paint and sanded them to simulate the look of stone. I left a silver lip to accentuate the wheel. So, what do you think? I am very happy with the way they came out and went for the stone look since I haven't seen anyone do it yet and wanted to be different. These wheels will hold me over until I can afford to get some Volks Racing TE37s.

i think it would look better if the center caps matched, other than that it looks great!

i was actually planning on doing my wheels like that, except without the "stone" look. (gunmetal with a silver lip)

they look kinda like gunmetal that faded. did u use a clearcoat? that may help the appearence and protect the paint.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I used 3 layers of clearcoat after the sanding process. It was tough getting it to come out right so it would look like stone. It took about 7 thin coats of graphite grey to start off with and then I slowy sanded away at it until it looked like stone. Looking back, I would probably just do a straight forward paint job and not worry about the "special effects" since it took so long. Good thing I had a 3-day weekend. Max96Se, I used Dupli-Color wheel paint that can be purchased from Walmart/AutoZone for ~$4.99 a can. There are several instructions out there and I think the FAQs actually list the one made by Ludacris. If you want, you can visit his
website for the instructions. Good luck and have fun modding.

Different, not bad, but like I told Luda, not my thing. But you did a great job with the work. OT , but what vent visors do you have? do they stick on the molding with tape, or do they fit in the channels of the window?

congrats on a good job though man, diy rules

I agree, it looks good, but would look a lot better if the center caps matched the wheel. The silver lip thing was a good idea.

Thanks meanbean, I hope to paint mine soon. I'll be sure to put the pics up. I think painting it all black might look kinda cool; besides like I said, the rims are already so scuffed up and break dust keeps keeps surfacing for some reason. Thanks for link too.

Maxima10to1, I got the visors from Paradox Systems and they are mounted with 3M double-sided tape. global_threat, I'm already on a Tein H-Tech drop with Tokico Illuminas. Maybe its the angle of the pic? Looks like I may have to stone the center caps and see how it looks since everyone is saying that it will match better. My original thinking was that the silver cap would enhance the lip better since they are the same color. If I have some free time this weekend, I will give it a try and see if I like it.
