95 tails question
95 tails question
ok which is easier and cheaper to do?
1. A 95/96 to 97-99 rear end conversion or to find the all clears and get them painted over in red?
2. Whats the average cost to do a rear end conversion including tail lights?
I just wanted to see my options on how i could get red/clears on my car... i have altezzas on my car now but every day they seem to look more and more out of place on my max. appreciate it!

well, i was doing a rear end converison on my 95, i got as far as a 97-99 rear bumper. but i do know you need a new trunk lid off a 97-99, whether you get it from a junk yard or brand new from some place, you also need the oem tails that attach to the trunk lid if you wanna do the red/clears. to paint a trunk lid might be a couple hundred....not sure if you need to replace your 95 bumper though. but if you don't, you just need to find a 97-99 trunk lid with the inner tails. i'd say have $300 if you are getting it from a junkyard and that will include cost of paint probably, if you are buying it new, it will probably be double that, paint is expensive and so are oem parts.

so it'll match up with the other peices of the 95 tails without any adjustment? That would work out perfect i wanted to get rid of my spoiler anyways
How much do you think it would cost to get a trunk lid from a junkyard?

You can make the 95/96 red and clear it will just be upside down compared to the 97/99. you take the the taillights and put them in the oven and..............? there is a write up somewhere and it gives you step by step instructions.
if you are gonna go 97-99, you might as well go all out, now that i have 97-99 front and rear bumpers i love them, way better then the 95-96 look, but i stopped half way through the converison cuz i want to sell my maxima. but with the bumpers, the 97-99 headlights and taillights, you will have one sleek ride.

I was thinking about this last night, actually. I saw a 97 Maxima with some red/clears a couple of days ago and just about wet myself. lol, I haven't seen too many Maximas around here that have any mods on them.
When doing this, do you have to buy a new rear bumper also?

ok so new tails and a new trunk lid... no you cannot put them in the oven, thats for the two peice 97-99 tail lights, our 95-96 lights are one peice, and as for "Going all out", i like how my 95 bumpers look!
Wow you guys are all so confusing. A 97-99 trunk and 97-99 tail lights is all you need. The fenders are the same, the trunk and its tail lights are the only different pieces, the inner lights are a different size. Outer tails are innerchangeable 100% no modifications.
The 97-99 bumper is a tad longer and has a little bevel under the outer lights to match the trunk better. But its no big deal, but if you changed it you would have to change yoour muffler tip to make it stick out another 1" or so.
And for the millionth time you cannot take stock 95/96 tails and clear them!

Painting the top part of tails red looks cheesy, it's hard to color match...however tinting the turn signal and reverse lights look sick...or you could just leave them. I like having the contours on my rear end, its different than most maxima's that are seen on the road (I usually see 97-99's). I don't know when it happened in automotive history, but I don't see why people hate the amber...I'd say deal with it, make yourself like it, and keep yourself undercover. It's sooo much more satisfying beating someone when you look stock.
