Rear caliper woes

Well, I went and replaced my front rotors and pads all around this past weekend. Took the car out for a test drive, pulled over to check things out and the left rear rotor was glowing red, I coulda lit a cigar off this thing. Not sure what the trouble was since I could push the car back & forth in neutral meaning nothing was locked up, at the time anyway.
Only thing we could come up with was that when I put the caliper back on I didn't get the piston keyed back up w/ the pin on the shim or the shim was so bad that it just tore off when I pushed the caliper back on it. So when I set the ebrake before taking it for a cruise it caused the piston to keep running out and not locking into place? I do remeber the pads had an uneven wear but I don't remember which side it was on. Like the leading end of the pads were worn more than the trailing end.
Anyway now I get to replace the rear rotors and pads and that caliper and prolly need to repack the hub sice it got so hot.
The guy I talked to at the dealership parts dept. said they have a lot of trouble w/ the rear calipers on these. Anyone else have trouble w/theirs? I'd never really heard of anyone else having trouble out of them.

I had to replace a rear caliper last year. Was all seized up. I read a lot about rear calipers being serviced or replaced on our Max's.

I just got done doing my rear brakes. The R/R was rubbing the squeekers and the L/R had half of the pad left. I went to Autozone and got Remanufactured Calipers with a life time warrenty. So, now I wont have to worry about turning the pistons back in anymore. I just take them back and get fresh calipers.

I feel your pain.

Just because you can move the car doesnt mean your calipers are not seized.

Try jacking up the wheels. See if they spin smoothly with no brake grab. Then pull your E-Brake handle up and down a few times and see if the wheels spin smoothly now. If they spun smoothly until you played with the E. Brake then its probably your cable.

I just replaced both rear calipers after my car felt like it was going uphill all the time and eating up brake pads. Autozone has a PAIR SET of loaded rear calipers (includes brackets and decent pads) for $160.

I'd just change both calipers if the e-brake cable is not binding. If the E. Brake cable is binding then thats the problem.

Let us know what happens

Well the car is about an hour away from me so I'm going to have to wait til this weekend to do anything. Hate not having a place to work on things myself. There was no problem before I changed the rear pads so I can assume the ebrake cable isn't the problem. I'm leaning more towards the caliper itself or the improper seating of the caliper back on the pads as the cause.
The $160 a set sounds nice right about now though. Thanks for the heads up on that.
Hate driving dads loaner truck, 1994 Chevy 1500, things turns like the Titanic.

All I know is that changing the rear pads is a pain!
If I never have to do that again, that would be too soon.
As of now, mine are not seized, but I hope they last a while longer and I will cross that bridge when I get there.
Keep us posted on the progress.

Brakes are very dirty. Between the brake dust and road dirt it is better to put on fresh calipers every time you put on new pads. Go to Autozone, you will only have to buy them once. Lifetime warrenty on Calipers and pads. Next time, take them back and get new ones.

I had to get my brakes done. Didnt have the time to do it myself so i went to the shop. When they changed my brakes and rotors, the rear calipers blew out. The e-brake wouldnt work anymore. Nissan wanted something like 600 for remanufactured ones. Ended up getting some for 60 a piece. I havent had a problem with them yet so its all good.
