Transmission troubles
Transmission troubles
I just got a 98 GLE 3 days ago, and the transmission is starting to act up. The transmission shifts at really high rpms, and if i floor it,. it just redlines from 2nd-3rd gear. Yesterday, it wouldn't get out of 4th gear, and it just plain wouldnt move when i put it in reverse. It only moved after i floored it and it slammed into gear. That scared the hell out of my girlfriend, who was in the car, and it scared me because i bought the car 3 days ago. I was driving home last night, and it missed a shift, and the Check Engine light came on. I checked it at home, and it read an 1103, Malfunction in 1st gear. I got the car with 8 month warranty on engine and transmission. Even though it would be free for me to replace, how much would it cost to replace or clean all the solenoids and vales in the transmission? would this be a really tough job? Would it be easier to just replace the torque convertor? Anyone had problems like this on their auto max? Thanks, any help would be greatly appreciated, because i really like this car, but i don't wanna have it leave me on the side of the road.
Sounds like the people might have changed the transmission fluid before you bought it. IF you wait to long to change your transmission, a buildup of junk gets in these nooks and crannys of your transmission. The transmission learns to get around these and flushing the transmission can mess it up. What color is your transmission fluid?
Thanks, i dont know if a flush and fill would help my problem, but i think the problem is with my solenoid valves or my drop resistor. I'm going to replace my drop resistor, and clean or replace the shift solenoids and valves, and hopefully that'll solve the problem. I just don't wanna have to do a full tranny rebuild. The car doesn't shift hard, it just hunts for gears. It only got locked up once, but for the last couple of days it's been shifting a little better.
What's the best remedy for the auto tranny that hunts for gears all the time?
