4th Gen strut dust boots and bearings

Hey guys, called the dealership today to get price quotes on dust boots and front strut bearings.

44.00 a piece for struts bearings
23.00 a piece for front strut boots
39.00 a piece for rear strut boots

Anyone know of a cheaper way to get stock Nissan parts and where? 210.00 for some rubber stuff and that doesn't include the struts and springs that I've purchased. I remember someone out there saying they got strut bearings for like 20.00 a piece. Where? Thanks.

Many, including myself, use jerryromenissan.com for parts. I think the discount code is "maxima" and is good for 15%. In any case, I refuse to go to my local dealer anymore. They never have anything in stock (I get it faster with JRNissan) and sometimes even quote me prices that are higher (sometimes by a lot) than JRNissan's List price. Just order enough that shipping is no biggie...

You can save some money by regreasing the old bearings. They pry apart very easily with a small screwdriver. Use Lithyum (sp?) grease, not wheel bearing grease. Clean them up, regrease and snap them back together.

You can save a few more bucks getting the KYB dust boots from your local auto parts store. You need p/n SB103 and SB108 (2 of each). You can pick them up for about 15 bucks each.

NJMax,

Thanks for the replies. I think I will take your advise on regreasing those bearings. I will also look into the KYB dust boots. Any idea if Napa, Kragen, or Auto Zone differs in whether or not they can order those boots? The last time I was at AZ, I asked about it and they looked at me like I was on something.

Other than replacing the boots, strut bearings, struts, and springs, that should be everything. There are some suspension bumpers, but unless your struts hammered them into submission, you should be able to reuse them. My boots were dry rotting apart and my bearings were binding. Otherwise, there aren't that many parts to replace when doing the struts.

If you're changing your springs make sure you replace or re-install the rubber sleeve that wraps around the coils that will normally rub together and make noise.

I found the KYB boots for 16 bucks a piece at a local autoparts store that carries KYB stuff. So I'm assuming since KYB doesn't make specific boots for the 95-99 maxima's, the SB103 (for the front on 89-94 max's) and the SB108 (for the Rear on a 240SX) will fit fine?

I also checked on the bearing replacements for the front and the KYB's were 37 a piece. I think I'll try regreasing mine and see how long they last.

I replaced my struts/shocks and boots yesterday. I decided to go with the OEM boots for the fronts since they are about the same price as the KYB and I heard on some threads that the KYB do not last as long as the OEM. The rear OEM boots on the otherhand are too pricey, so I went with the KYB for the rears. If the rear boots rip, then it is much easier to replace than the fronts and no alignment job is needed.

Mt $0.02.

I was going to go back to stock struts, since mine are shot at 100k. I decided though to go with KYB GR-2's. Anyone using GR-2's with the stock springs? Recommended?

I replaced my front struts today with KYB GR-2's and kept the stock springs. Next week I'll replace the rears as well. So far it rides pretty good.

Paid 250 shipped for the GR-2's on Ebay. If you don't live in CA, you will pay about 235.00 shipped. Do a search on Maxima Struts. Yea, I think I'll stay with the stock springs w/ the GR-2's. Let me know how it rides once you have the rears on.

I need to replace the front boots. Cause the front right side is making a ugly sound when i turn the wheel. I did change the struts and springs to Tokico and now is making a ugly sound so i think is the boots, well the right one. So im looking to change the boots on the front. Where is the cheapest place to buy them.

To find the boots, call around to your local autoparts stores and ask if they carry KYB suspension products. If so, get the SB103 (part#) for the fronts and SB108's for the rear. They are for different vehicles since KYB doesn't meke a 95-99 Max boot set specifically, but I'm assuming by the other guys posting here that they work fine.

The noise that you are hearing is most likely the strut bearings, not the boots. When the strut bearings in the front bind, it's actually winding up the spring when you turn the wheel. Mine is currently doing it and I'm just waiting on parts until I completely re-do my front suspension. KYB makes the front strut bearings and they run about 38 a piece. Stock ones are about 43 a piece. I just went to an Autozone and they have an off brand for 25 a piece.

I thought that with all of the people looking to do suspension installs I would post what information I had gathered while assembling my parts for my install.

I went to advanced auto and purchased my parts. I did this out of convenience and because I hate waiting for mail-order parts. Advance Auto sells KYB struts for most cars (at least the GR2 model) so I thought that I would try there.

DO NOT BUY THE PARTS THAT THEY LIST AS OEM REPLACEMENTS FOR THE MAXIMA!

So here is the good information-

For the rears:
The advanced auto number was listed as a part 14108 for a company called TRW. The advanced item # is 18511582. According to Advanced auto the KYB ones are made by TRW and repackaged.

This weekend I compared it with the KYB part and they are identical right down to the stampings.

I got this part by asking them for a part for the 95 miata and they came up w/ the 14108 part number, which matched the KYB number (SB108) pretty closely.

For the fronts:
You can do the same with the mustang number (SB103). A friend gave me his KYB fronts and the # was SB103. The advanced auto computers can cross-reference those numbers. I checked with them on this and they have a direct-match part number listed in the computer system.

All 4 boots are about $15 each. They take about 2 days to get in.

was bored at work today at autozone and came across that the strut boots are also available there through gabriel. im not sure how the quality is as compared to kyb or the trw, but they are cheaper. Going with the 95 mustang for the front part # 141275, and rears 95 miata part # 142333. cost should be $12 and take a couple of days to get in. oh and if you were to go there and have them look the up the computers dont have a listing so you hafta get in to the catalogs to find the part numbers.

I bought OEM strut bearings from my local Nissan dealer for about $35 each.

What are the "orange things"? I am installing a Tokico Illumina kit this weekend and am making sure I have everything I need.
