How long ago did you get your dash painted? Any problem with the paint coming off? I'm worry the paint coming off with a light scratch. thanks
I am thinking of painting it black or metalic gray.
Exterior paint looks best on the dash and vinyl IMO. and lasts longer. Also, vinyl dye has a tendency to rub off of regularly touched spots, such as the shifter and arm rests. If you wanna go the inexpensive way, use RIT fabric dye on your carpets. I can give you a complete How-to, along with pics if you need. The headliner can not be dyed. also, I dont recommend dying seats. Reupholster them yourself. Just use the original seat fabric as a guide. If you're gonna do this project, buckle down for an a$$ load of work and PATIENCE is key. And NO skipping steps like sanding the dash and priming it.
for some reason my dash and door panels look like they are supposed to be black, but arent as dark as I'd like, even when i clean em with armor all. I just wanted to darken em up a bit. My car is burgundy(black next summer) with gray seats and im guessin supposed to be black interior. I wanna go all black, possibly some silver accents.
Hook me up with those how to's, pigpenn. How hard is it to redo the seats?

For interior plastic/vinyl, dyes work much better as you won't have to worry about the paint scratching or flaking off.

hey euromaxima....do you notice any rubbing off of the dye on your seats (onto your clothes) or water marks on the carpet if it rains? I'm not familiar with the SEM dye. I was afraid to dye the seats because I was afraid the color would rub off onto my ****. If you havent noticed any wear of color, your method might be better. My method was EXTREMELY time consuming and can only be done to the carpet because you have to wash the surface 2 or 3 times and dye it 2 or 3 times to set the color and make it permanent.

I want #1. I dont want it to be exterior, i want it to look like a stock black interior.
Euromaxima--I saw that dupont stuff, thats what i was thinking of using. Did you use that on the A pillars, dash, and door panels? How long has that suff lasted? Also, what color did the seats used to be and how long has the dye lasted?

Euromaxima.....as far as your fabric seats.....what dye did you use? Do you think the Duplicolor Vinyl and Fabric spray will work well on the seats? You said it won't come onto your clothes, what if you're caught in the rain and then sit?

What I would do if I were going to dye my seats, is test it out on junkyard seats first. See how much dye I need and the results..also test out different dyes. The RIT dye I used on my carpet is the dye they sell in grocery or craft stores to dye clothing.
Here are the directions for anyone interested...
Tools:
1. Lots of plastic ie: drop cloths, big garbage bags, tarp...etc
2. blue tape
3. RIT fabric dye (powder form comes in a box, cost is $2.00 a box)
4. Spray bottle (I used empty windex bottle)
5. Scrubber brush (something with a good grip and comfy handle)
6. sponges
7. Rubber gloves (it will dye your skin)
8. Work clothes that you don't mind getting ruined
9. PATIENCE
10. simple green degreaser
Instructions:
1. First cover all plastic, vinyl, and anything else you don't want dyed with plastic and use tape liberally.
2. Put gloves on!! Mix 2 packages of the RIT dye with VERY hot water (as hot as you can get out of the faucet) into your spray bottle and shake well
3. Spray dye onto entire area and scrub in with scrubber brush. (To reach smaller areas such as in between front seats and doors, you can use your fingers (with gloves on) and also a sponge cut into smaller pieces.
4. Don't soak the carpet entirely because you will need to do at least 2 coats to change your color completely (mine was gray and is now jet black) and you can't do the second coat until the first is dry.
5. *If you skipped the plastic and tape preparation, Simple Green degreaser will remove any dye that you sprayed on your plastic and vinyl pieces ( I promise) but NOTHING will remove it from other fabric as it IS fabric dye.
6. When you are done, vacuum the carpets and anything else you dyed to remove small particles of loose dye.
7. You might want to do 3 or 4 coats depending on the desired effect. I chose to do one coat, let it dry overnight, do a follow up coat, vacuum, let the dye sit for a week (daily driver), then dye again 2 more times.
Enjoy your new interior!

Just came from autozone and tested out the black duplicolor fabric spray on the underside of my back seat. The color went on well and looks good, however, it did dry a lil hard, but not much. I'm still skeptical as to whether or not to do this. Can someone let me know what stores carry the fabric dyes mentioned in this thread?
