Anyone have carputer in their Max ?

I have begun planning my install and setup for my carputer. I have just about everything i need and should be ready to go by next week and was wondering if anyone has installed one in their MAX. Ive seen hundreds of installs and have plenty ideas but none on a max so i figured it would be helpful to see it done. thanx

P.S. i am interested in selling my gunmetal altezzas. they have barely been used. i had them in my car a total of about one month then i immediately took them off to go back ot factory...thats me full of great ideas. anyone interested gimme an offer for them shipped.

This dude from Alabama installed a computer into his 02 Max. I don't think he comes to The Org, however.

does anyone know of a write up on how to do this? I would like to add a computer into my Max, but not too sure how the process goes, but I am very computer savy, anyone have a write up or willing to quickly sum up how it would be installed?

Im in the process...

Its not that difficult I dont think its worthy of a writeup, just get a 7/8" VGA touchscreen and slap a mini-computer somewhere and wire it up.. You would need a inverter to power the PC and would have to do some tapping into to install the screen like you would any other car tv.

Its basically all wiring and hooking it up so it turns on when you start the car.. etc..

Great resource is www.mp3car.com

When im done with mine i'll let you know how it went

yea it runs just like any other comps. Im gonna run XP. Once computer is on i plan on using a program designed for car pc's there are a few good ones out there. mediacar is one of them. It will have a skins that lets u easily get into your programs, gps, videos, mp3's, dvd's, or just plain old radio, which should be the last thing u use i guess.

why not put a normal comp in ur trunk and use ur carputer to play videogames too? I'de build myself a nice little system with one of those shuttle mini cases.

The hard driveroly not a good idea to have a desktop hard drive in a moving car. A better idea would be to make ur computer boot linux off a cd rom/mini flash drive. Hard drives tend to mess up when jostled. If you go with a hard drive make sure it's one designed for use in laptops, then it should be able to handle the bumps.

I myself am planning to put a comp into my car in place of a head unit. I havent decided for sure whether it's worth it...but playing videogames and dvd's in my car sounds like a lot of fun.

edit: why must a : P turn into a face?

lol you make a good point on the hardrive, i've been giving it some thought of rigging up some sort of "suspension" system for it so it will absorb them hard bumps some, that and mounting it sideways, mounting linux off a removable media is not really an option since I cant have all my cool mp3's and games n stuff

How long do WD hardrives have warranty?? For 3 years??

1. Wireless hotspots around miami, 2. my cellphone, I can use it for inet... Its about as fast as ISDN.

Not gonna be doing anything crazy like downloading stuff, im adding the wireless adapter to the car to mainly transfer files between my car and house, so I dont have to be taking up teh hardrive to add files to it..

Since I can hook up my cellphone by usb to the computer I can use that to check email, browse sites incase I need to find something, etc.. Its not gonna be a 24/7 thing.

I looked around on that site and it doesn't say mucha bout prices. This seems cool but how much does it end up running you in the end? So basically its like a computer but no case right so you have to buy a DVD drive and all that too but where do you put it all?

the screen is a touch screen..

The computer will have a case, but its alot smaller than your average cases, about 12 inches long or so and like 3 1/2 inches tall, not too big, just big enough to hide it somewhere like a PS2.

It will cost me around $500 for the screen and the basic pc, without wireless, gps, and the other goodies, just the good ol system, touchscreen, and my mp3s and videos etc.

Maybe there backups of all the cd's I bought incase they get scratched up?
Maybe I saved them screenshots from someone else and posted it here?

I never _directly_ stated they WERE mine??

So think before you go and be a troll on someone elses thread.

Great thread! I am just in a process of researching it. Want to do this over winter holidays. I have quite a bit of computer crap at home that I can put together for car pc. Where dod you guys want to mount the PC case? What brand of touchscreen you gonna use? I saw Lilliputs are widespread but their curved design in the bottom does not seem to fit well into Maxima. How powerfull Processor would you recommend to handle MP3s and GPS, will PIII 700 Mhz do?

Thanks!

In the process also. Hope it doesn't get too cold here to work on. Avg cost is around 800-1200 with everything. A lot cheaper than dvd system or navigation. Race to who builds it first! Also will be using media car

this is craziness. im pretty new to the maxima/car scene. but i always wondered about having a comp in the car while driving. it would hold alot more stuff so i wouldn't hafto carry discs around. or bother to stop at home to check "1" email from someone i dont even care about. nice thread. im impressed. someone actually is talking about the stuff i want to do with my car other than how to make a 12 second max. not that i hate performance, just more into the comfort auto.

What kind of touch screen you guys will be putting in? 7" Lilliput? The price on them seems pretty good.
