99 SE manual with p1706 code HELP

This is weird. I have a 1999 SE with a standard transmision. The SES light came on and reads P1706 Park Neutral Park switch.

How is that possible and has anyone got a solution for this.

Did you change your tranny fluid lately? The switch is the backup light and neutral switch on the lower left side of the manual tranny. Some people drain the tranny fluid by removing this switch to let the fluid out. My bet is that the switch is bad internally.
