is this the result of a bad clutch or bad tranny?
i already know my clutch is not in great shape, but i just want to make sure this is because of the bad clutch and not my tranny going.
lately i have noticed that it is pretyt easy to pull the shifter out of first without even touching the clutch. it can slip out pretyt easily with just a little bit of preassure. normally for first and all other gears it requires a lot of force to rip it out of gear with the clutch still engaged. is this the result of a bad clutch or is my tranny going?

To me it might be the transmission. Is it also hard to get it INTO 1st gear? like does the shifter slide in or does it have to be pushed into gear? I think it might be the syncro on 1st gear goin bad.
My friend with an 1st gen Altima had a bad syncro for 3rd and 4th gear. Basically you had to push that shifter into the gear, it felt rubbery but at the same time it was very hard to get it in gear. to take it out took almost no effort however.

so is this a bad thing? can it eventualy lead to the tranny dying?
also. is it something that can be fixed? i am getting my clutch replaced soon. would the syncro be able to be fixed while the tranny is out of the car?

well if it is a syncro, then u might get exessive wear (shock or grnding) on the gears that syncro works with.
And yes it can be replaced, and you have to have the tranny out anyways to do it, so IF IT IS the syncros, when changing the clutch would be the perfect time to do it. Since the tranny has to be taken apart to change the syncro(s), you might as well change any bearings or seals that might be worn (cheap insurance if the wallet allows). Verify your tranny issue with any mechanic you may know before throwing down the money. Make sure it is a syncro and not some other crap in there. Cus sometimes when the clutch is worn out bad, it makes it harder to get INTO 1st gear, but I don't know about it being so easy to come out of it, especially without the clutch pressed in. Good luck
