Finally decided on exhaust dilemma... CUTOUTS!
Finally decided on exhaust dilemma... CUTOUTS!
I know what you are thinking. This morning I woke up and had a stroke of genius.
For months I have been driving myself nuts trying to decide on what to do with my exhaust. I already have the y-pipe, 5th gen muffler.... was thinking about a b-pipe.
Then I recently decided to bite it and pay for an SP2. Great exhaust from what I have seen and heard. But (1) I don't want another car with permanent fart-pipe appearance (2) The gredddy isn't quite loud enough to scare women and children, but it is too loud for commuting at the same time.
So I googled "electronic exhaust cut-out". Low and behold... the first link was to an IS300 owner in my hometown. I'm sure I probably ran into him at this summer's www.seloc.net meet. Kind of suprised me too.

I talked to him, and I talked to the shop that did the work. $110 for the entire assembly, another $150 to install it.
That leaves me a great deal of spending money compared to say, buying a $600 cat-back w/o shipping or custom fabrication included.
Which brings me to part 2 of my plan. An AK-47.

It really doesn't have much to do with my car, but I think they are hella cool.
Cliff Notes:
I'll probably be going to jail soon.
Well good luck getting it to fit. There isn't enough room on the underside of the 4th gen for the whole assembly to fit. I got the actual cutout welded into a test pipe, and have it facing towards the drivers side of the car, since the 3 bolts that hold it in only allow for turns of 120 degrese (sp?). The cutout fits fine, but when I tried to install my electric motor on the end of the cutout the motor wouldn't fit. Basically, the underbody needs to be banged upwards, and parts of the flange/motor need to be trimmed. It's do-able, but it will require some custom work and time. Good luck man.

From the y-pipe to the muffler there is no place that it will fit???
I figured they would have to fabricate some stuff... Hmmm maybe I will take the car up there first for them to look at it.
Thanks for the heads up.
