Please help to identify open ended rubber hose near MAF.

In the process of fixing the starter on my 97 Auto Max, I had to remove the MAF and Air intake resonator (slightly curved black box). Now that I am putting things back together, I noticed a small hose that I can't remember if it should be connected to something.
I am trying to make sure I don't leave something disconnected, I have looked into both Haynes and Nissan Shop Manual and cannot find any reference to it.
I would appreciate it if anyone can help. Thanks in advance.
I will describe the location of the hose below:
* If you stand on the driver side of the car.
* Then if you look at the air intake resonator. On the left side of the box is where the crankcase ventilation tube connects to.
* Now I notice that there is a plastic clip that hangs onto the crankcase ventilation rubber tube, and there is a smaller rubber hose that is hanging onto the lower end of that same clip. I guess it is using the ventilation tube to hold its position.
* But that smaller hose is open ended and I cannot find where it should connect to, or if it has always been open ended just dangling.
* I tried to follow that hose to the other end, I think it connects to a thin metal tube that in turns is connected to the engine lower down.
