spring/struts/shock/tires ?

Hi,

I have a '95 GXE, 60k miles.
I think the struts and shock are getting too soft.

Are there springs that are stiffer than stock and does not lower the car?
I was thinking of getting KYB Gr2 with stock springs or
Tokico Iluminas?

Anyone have this combo? I looking to improve the handling. I want it to be less floaty and have less body lean.

Also is it possible to put on Toyo proxies 4 on a 15" stock steelies?

thanks,
Mutsu

Keep your stock springs and use a nice firm strut such as the KYB GR2 and the floaty feel will be gone.

If you want to firm things up a bit without lowering, you should get some SE springs. There are usually plenty available since people always are upgrading to aftermarket springs. They won't lower the car at all, but will firm things up a bit. Combine these with a slightly firmer than stock strut, like the KYB GR2s and I believe you'll accomplish what your trying to do.
As far as the tires...I'm not familiar with the sizes available for those specific tires (and I don't feel like looking right now). Many really high performance tires don't come in the 60 or 65 series' that are necessary with the 15" rims. Additionally, you don't want to get too wide on the stock rim's width (205 or 215 will be fine). Just do some research to see what sizes the tires you want are available in, and stick pretty close to the stock size, unless you get aftermarket rims too.
Good luck,
Adam

mutsu,

You may want to consider other suspension mods prior to committing to struts to reduce body roll and slightly firm up the ride:

Rear sway bar (body roll reducing)
Performance oriented tires (more firm, perhaps biggest handling upgrade)
Polyureathane Front Sway bar bushings (more firm, body roll reducing)
I just posted a review and I have a stock GXE struts & springs:

All of these items you can easily install and remove based on what you are looking for.
