Somewhat recently my Max was violated (broken into) and I have a curiosity question...

While they were violating my car with a screwdriver they managed to destroy my radio bezel and rip the slider off of my A/C control unit. They bent the LED all to hell, so I am not so sure it can be fixed.

In my finite wisdom, I have decided that it might be a good idea to try and change to the automatic controls. I am sure someone has attempted this or thought about it before me, since I never come up with anything original!

Anyway, is this possible? ...and off the top 'o your head, about what would that unit cost?

...additionally, does anyone in the Chicagoland area have the stock black radio bezel left over from a wood grain install or something? I would be willing to pay 20 dollars or so cash for it... anymore and I might as well buy it from the dealer for 40.

The automatic climate control is a sophisticated computer-controlled device. It relies on signals from four sensors.
- The in-vehicle sensor, attached to the A/C control finisher.
- The ambient sensor, attached to the radiator core support.
- The sunload sensor, located on the right defroster grille.
- The intake sensor, located on the cooling unit housing.

IMHO this conversion is possible but probably not worth the effort. To judge by past posts on this forum and the alt.autos.nissan.maxima newsgroup, the automatic climate control is more failure-prone than the manual type and replacement parts are expensive.

Thanks Dan, I guess I will start pricing the manual version and hopefully I won't have to get any ********* appraised...

Still open for the bezel if anyone has one handy though...
