H&R - "We've never changed stiffness or rate on our rear springs"
H&R - "We've never changed stiffness or rate on our rear springs"
I just spoke with tech support at www.hrsprings.com (888.827.8881) and they claim to know nothing about previous issues with rear sag on Maximas. They've also stated that rear springs rates or stiffnesses have never changed, whatsoever.
I explained recurring issues with sag as noted frequently on the org, and they were totally clueless to such.
Is the elimination of sag an empirical observation on newer springs, or has anyone actually spoken w/ a techie at H&R or elsewhere for verification?

Sorry to be blunt, but Holy Lord people! When are people going to realize there is NO rear sag problem with the H&Rs. The perceived "sag" comes from the fact that the rear wheel wells are shorter than the front wheel wells. I have a 5 speed and H&Rs and I've put a level on my car is and it's completely level. The rear gap is less simply because the wheel well is shorter. Nearly every car made has more wheel gap in the front than rear because more lean in experienced in the front and the wheel turn therefore more wheel well gap is needed.

But, just so the non-enginerd types know, it is possible to change the static ride height of a spring without changing the spring rate.
yup this is the same "sagging" issue with intrax. the car is dead level, but the unequal arches give the impression of a lower rear. hell the stock springs are the same way, but no one complains!
true sagging is when the springs getting shorter over time, and usually the companies warrenty their parts. i think all the springs i have installed state that if the spring sags more than .xx" they will be replaced.
still this new generation of H&R springs (with supposed even wheel gaps) are still a myth.
where are the mythbusters?

Back to the thread.
This is why I asked to see how many people have had this problem. I have H&R's also and they don't sag. I also have stereo equipment and it still sits nicely. I believe H&R when they said they didn't change their spring rate. Why would they?
Has anyone ever noticed how bad the difference between the front and rear wheel gap is on the Q45 - it looks like every single one comes loaded with sand in the trunk from the factory... will look for a pic...

I have a 5speed with H&R's and while you say there is technically "no sag" the car still appears that way fender or whatever. I hated the look and had only one 12" sub in the trunk. If you put anyone in the back seat, even a 105lb girl then it looked even worse.
I put spacers in the back of mine to raise it up slightly. Ask Jay25 (who installed mine) and he will agree...it looked like the back was lowered and the front was almost the same.

no thanks, I've had Sprints before and roads here in Chicago are bad.
i'm not against lowered maximas but maxima don't respond well to lowering.
H&R are great springs and i'll stand by them 100%, they dont sag ,
they give nice well finished stance and ride is firm and controlled
but nowhere near stock.

Hey Nick,
Are the photos of your car after the springs have settled? Also, do you have an auto or 5 speed? I ask because I have seen great variation in photos of the H&R set-ups. So seem much lower as above and some less.
Other springs seem to be more consistent form car to car (in the photos I've seen), or maybe because I'm serious considering H&Rs I've seen a lot more photos and paid more attention.
Anyone have any thoughts about the consistency of drop issue, or non-issue?
Mr.P

Photos never do a suspension drop justice and that's why you see the difference. Bad lighting, uneven surfaces, etc, can make a car appear higher than it really is. If a car looks low in a pic, it will be REALLY low in person and vice versa.
