I don't know much about rims. I've read the FAQ's at the org, but I am honestly unsure as to what official size rims arrived at my door today.
I bought 17" x 7" rims. The rims that arrived look exactly like what I paid for, but they measure 18.5" x 8" and even have a sticker on the outside of each box, which shows 18" x 8" and then a picture of the rim (which isn't the same as the rim in the box).
I was under the impression the first number is the total diameter of the rim, from end to end. Perhaps they true diameter of a rim is the length from one inside edge to the other? (if that makes any sense)
Anyways, I have a couple pictures here if you guys could let me know which size rims I actually have purchased, that would be great.
Then I can get some tires for these suggas'
Image one (rim diameter)
Image two (rim width)
(please post to let me know if these images don't show up - and I reduced the quality of them to save bandwidth but they are still 1024x768)

Turn the rim over and look at the underside. Look for marks that indicate the diameter and width. ie.. 17x7 or 18x8 it could look like jj17x7 or something. The way you are measuring is not the correct way to measure. You are not supposed to include the bead when you measure the wheel specs. Would be nice to have received 18x8s though
You can see that the wheel bead is about 1/2". So 1/2" x 2 is 1". So for the rim width, you can see it's really 7" wide. Same for the diameter.

and BTW Kumhos were rated one of the best tread wearing tires out there. You will be very happy with that choice. Trust me mine have lasted 3years now and still have plenty of meat on them
anyways back to the measurement... Whenever you measure a rim from outter lip across you knock off an inch. My 18's measure 19" across the same way you measured it.
