my mechanics always use to say that when i came to their shops... that my rotors are too thin... i still drove like 3000 miles after than... when i took em off they seemed normal to any other rotor... i changed them though cause they were uneven and had to be sharpened... decided to get new ones... new ones are cheap from dealership too... like 40$ a piece for front ones... or is that the brake pads? hmmm

I went to a dealership once and the wanted $80 a piece. I could have gotten a set for about $25 at Autozone.

Your crazy to be buying used rotors when you can just go to Napa and get them for $25 a piece.

i'm a broke full time college student; i work 3 nightshifts and never can sleep. I only have 80 bucks to spare after paying all my bills. I'd rather have my car stop well than eat; that way i can drive home to eat. So there's the reason why I will resort to such 'crazy' things. Forgive me for not having as much as you.

Don't start whining to me. I am trying to help you here by showing you that your not saving money buy buying used brake parts. Don't worry I am a full time college student with a job as well.

Your looking to buy used rotors, which after you pay for shipping I bet will cost you at least $20 a piece....so for $25 you can get new ones.

Two new rotors....$50. A set of cheap Napa pads....$30. There is your $80 right there. You think your gonna get used stuff shipped to you for cheaper than that?

You know you try helping people they just **** on you instead of saying Thanks. Thats why i stopped helping people. Well you can grab rotors and brake pads at Autozone or Advance Auto Parts for less the $100. yeah i typed it right 2 Brandnew rotors with 6 months waranty and the brakes with lifetime waranty. I did it my self and never had a problem with warping rotors or sqeaky brakes. Well good luck getting a waranty from the person your buying used rotors from.

I have a pair of front rotors off 2000-2001 maxima they might fit 4th gen. They are still ok. It's free, just pay the shipping since you are in NJ. I think they are like 30 lbs.

I'm with Mike on this...buying used rotors/pads is asking for worse trouble than keeping your stocks on or getting new rotors/pads from Napa or vAutozone.

IMO-Wouldn't used rotors and pads have worse braking due to the original wear patterns?

this is also a good reason college kids should have ONE credit card to bail them out. what happens when the tranny goes or you blow a tire and bend a wheel?
that's several hundred bucks.. stick it on the VISA and pay it off $50 a month until it's done.

"financial advice" aside, they're making good recommendations. I'd take a cheap NEW rotor over an OEM used one any day. rotors are a wear item. it's like buying oil that's got 2000 miles on it. you're not saving any money in the long run, and actually causing more harm in labor than you're doing good.

if the rotors aren't worn completely through, you can stick some $15 autozone pads on there and keep driving until you can afford new rotors. the thickness numbers have quite a bit fo safety factory built into them, and as long as you're not doing anything stupid, you can continue driving on them. same with pads at 10% material. as long as you're not down to metal on metal, then you can keep driving- especially if you're going to throw new rotors on it later. hell, wear them down to bare metal and then throw them all away.
think about how much life your pads have left on them. assume you have 50,000 miles on your current set of pads and they're at 10% left. that means you've got at least 5000 miles left before the pads are completely worn out.

by throwing on used brakes parts, you're just pushing time back on replacing the whole thing when you can just do it and be done with it.

Now, we're two. But, watch out, whatever you do stay safe. If I were you, I would look for the cheapest place to buy NEW brakes then either install them myself, or find another cheap place to do it.

I let the brakes on a 2-dr Cherokee I used to have wear themselves out until a seal broke, I lost all fluid, and had a very serious crash. Fortunately I stopped the truck with a wooden telephone pole.... Anyhow don't let your car do something similar to you.

I would not get cheap rotors from anywhere. I got a set of rotors for $22 at NAPA, they warped within 3 weeks of normal braking. i would not recommend getting used pads or rotors either. you are just asking for trouble.
