How often do you hit your 97-99 Stillen Front lip, lowered suspensions?

I'm really considering the full Stillen kit for my car but I'm worried that the lip might be just a lil low. Currently I'm lowered with H&R's, my 99 came down a good 1-3/4 up front. The lip will bring me down another inch?? to the ground which will make things interesting. So how often do you scrape your lip while your pulling into a driveway or have you hit it on a large dip in the road as well? How long have you had your kit on and how has it held up to road hazards.

Your feedback is appreciated

Tom

It makes life a bit harder. I have to drive slowly through my parking garage at work. I can't go up alignment ramps, tow truck flat beds, etc.....

I do however have a slightly lower drop than your H&Rs.

Oh yeah....... I ALWAYS back into parking spots!

You'd probably be the exact same height at me. I touch ground about once every other month. Usually it's just a slight slide down a driveway. I don't think I've ever hit a dip that caused it to touch, fortunately the stiff springs keep the front up pretty well. As for road hazards, I've hit a large rabbit at 80mph, which added a almost unnoticeable 3" horizontal crack in the front lip. By the sound of it, I was expecting half of the lip to be torn off. This is pretty much everything that has happened in the last 2 years I've had it on.

But as long as you are careful about not hitting anything while parking, know to always go up ramps angled, and know when ramps are just too steep to get up because they aren't wide enough, you should be just fine.

Be extra cautious as your lip can still crack despite it being flexible. Some of my paint is cracking off due to too much flex when the lip meets the pavement.

Tom,

I'm on H&Rs and AGXs and I scrap more in the rear than in the front and that is due to my Ionics full rear. I do not think that you'll be having any problems whatsoever. The front I did scrape a bit but that was because I wasn't used to driving a lowered/kitted car...

Great, thanks for the input guys. I guess this coming spring it's gonna be time to give Max a face lift. The front bumper is showing it's age, so I'll respray the front end and most likely throw the kit on.

It'll be like getting a new car again.

about once a week. the only thing that kills me are speed bumps. but the stillen lip is very strong you just have to worry about scraping the paint

The best advice given

I've only had my kit for about 3 months, but I've yet to hit or scrape anything. A close call at a local Chevron with a messed up incline to the tire pressure tank, but whatever.

I honestly thought I was going to be scraping regularly after I got my kit installed but it hasn't been the case. However, I will note that rodents seem to like to claw at the damn thing

Oh, by the way, I think you lose more like 2-3 inches with the front Stillen lip

Just be extra careful on wherever you drive now and you'll be fine. . Close attention to Curbs, inclines, declines, speed bumps, and random dead animals in the road .

The bottom will get scrape once in awhile. The ones that really mess up the paint on the lip is when you hit the curb or those parking beam. Hook up with a cheap body shop. You can get the lip paint it for about $100 so just repaint it every couple years.

lol your driveway looks like itd be a pain in the ***...so narrow. Frank I thought you rattlecanned it? if you did is it holding up? cause im thinking of doing that..

My lip is pretty banged up, but its not painted either bc I knew it would happen. I got lots of scrapes in the beginning, there are three big gashes on the front of the lip two from me and one from my friend driving my car back from getting it installed the first day I'm careful now tho, even backing my car onto the sidewalk so I can get more of an angle if its a really steep driveway.

You should see my lip after two years. It's not that bad though. I'm probably going to do the face lift idea this spring. I don't have problems going up hills, because I can hit it at an angle. Coming down can be tough sometimes though.

Tom,

with your drop i wouldnt be to worried about hitting to often, unless your looking for really steep driveways or parking lot entrances to go into, hehe. Im on Sprints and i admit i rub alot and thats being well aware of every bump on the road and driveway/entrance i approach. I wont even get into when my 15's are on during the winter! lol i might as well be called a street sweeper with the clearance i have upfront.

Ive been fearing putting on my front lip. I am going to wait until after winter though...I do not want it to act like a snow shovel.

At first my lip was really nice and always painted. But after running it over at the beach, I've fail to keep it painted. But it still looks good from afar.

BTW this stillen lip is only for drivers that are willing to drive slow.

I've had my lips for 3 yrs total 2 1/2 stillen and 6 months on my cf lip. I've barely scraped the Stillen maybe 5 or 6 times since installed. As for my CF havent scraped yet. My lips have 3" of ground clearance. I scrape my oil pan more than them...lol. It looks damn good that low. I guess FL roads have been good to me.

I cracked my first stillen lip during the winter last year because I hit a pile of ice when I parked, my fault so that shouldn't be put into consideration. I used to scrape it everywhere but it was real strong, the cold weather made it stress out and crack, definitley recommend taking it off for the winter. After that I got a carbon fiber one, it was all good until I pulled into a parking spot and knicked the curb and it tugged on my lip and put a nice crack in it. Its all good though, it makes a big difference when you have the whole kit and no lip, i prefer having the lip so I plan on getting another one again.

-sorry for the ramble, its 3am guess what I've been doing... :-p
