Flashing check engine light, Help!

What does this mean! According to Nissan and the $75 bucks I paid, I have a bad fuel injector ...again (ECU 0301) which I know will cause the CE light to come on but what is with the flashing? The light will flash for a minute or two then just stay on steady. Am a destroying my engine by driving it in this condition? I have an appt. already set up for next week to replace the injector.

A misfire due to a fuel injector or coil pack failure will cause your CEL light to flash under med to hard accelleration.

It's not good for the engine to be under a load while it's misfiring. The flashing light is supposed to alert you to a problem that need attention immediately.

That information can be found in your owners manual.

Thanks for the info NMax. What funny is the light would flash even when I was coasting or using the cruise control. This all just started this week so I haven't put that may miles on the car in this condition. Either way it sounds bad and thankfully the only driving I will have to do is to the repair shop on Monday.

MY ECU screw is broken, meaning that it will continue to turn in either direction. On my 95, if I do not re set the ECU screw properly after checking a CEL, the CEL will continue to flash. Did you recently check a CEL and not carefully turn the screw all the way back?

Nissan checked the ECU. I don't have a scanner to check the code myself otherwise I would have and saved myself the $75 bucks. Actually I was able to get my car into the shop today and had the bad injector replaced. The CEL was still on when I picked it up but that's because the shop I brought it to dosen't have dianostic equipt for Nissan to reset it. I was going to post a new thread asking how to reset the code to clear the CEL but it did it by itself after I drove it for a bit.

Read all the stickies at the top of the 4th Gen forum... there is plenty of useful info on how to read the codes from the ECU and also how to reset it - no scanner is needed.

AFAIK A flashing SES/CEL means stop driving the car and fix it ASAP

Good to hear your light turned itself off after your repair, but in the future and as njmodi said, check the FAQ's on how to diagnose/reset your SES light

Just curious, how much did the injector cost you?

I'm in the same boat. I had my cylinder #2 fuel injector replaced a month after I bought the car and now I the CEL came on again and I need to replace the cylinder #1 fuel injector.

When I had a misfire and the CEL came on it started blinking for while and then went solid. When I had the codes scanned I read on the scanner that a blinking CEL means that the misfire could cause damage to the catalytic converter. So driving with a blinking CEL could lead to replacing the cat as well as the fuel injector.
