Short ram intake - what gets replaced?

I have been searching, but to no avail, for an answer to this question: Exactly which parts of the stock instake system get replaced with a short-ram type intake system? I have seen pictures which show the "snorkel" still in place, so obviously that doesn't have to come off. What else does NOT need to be removed? The lower resonating chamber under the battery? What else?

Air box, accordion pipe, and square resonator right before the MAF, these come off to install a short ram. I should be flaming you not helping you.

Thanks.

Why should you be flaming me? I spent over an hour searching for the answer and didn't find it. Just how much time should I waste before asking for help? I read the stickies. Many of the more promising links are broken. I used the search. Most of the time it gave me "Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 16777216 bytes exhausted"

I got the intake installed. I left the "snorkel" and the resonator box below the battery. If nothing else, the snorkel will help feed cool air to the area now occupied by the new filter.

If you've ever seen a pic of a maxima engine bay with a short ram intake you'd know what is and what isn't removed to install it. That's why I was gonna flame you.

I was looking for a good clear picture of an engine bay with a short-ram intake, and could not find one to save my life. Perhaps you could share your technique for finding pictures of things. There are thousands of pictures at cardomain, but I haven't figured out how to search for specific things AND specific cars. "Nissan Maxima" finds 3636 matches. Searching Part Catagory "Intake" and Manufacturer "Weapon R" finds 1527 hits, but this is for all makes, so I waded through a few pages and did not find ANY Maximas, and I gave up. I tried Google, but again no joy.

Oh, by the way, the sound of the Weapon r is pretty cool. I hear no difference in sound at part throttle below 3000 RPM or so, which is what I had hoped. It sounds no different from the stock intake when driving "easy". But get on it good and it sounds great.

I haven't actually driven the car yet myself, so I can't say anything about whether it feels like it has lost power at lower RPM's, but it sure does SOUND good.

Speaking of which, I think I'll go thrash it around a bit...

everybody has their own setup on intakes. i left my snorkle part in and just block off the air coming down into the resonator so all the air coming through the snorkle feeds into the short ram. you can choose to leave both in or take them both out if you want. its your call.

I will probably leave the resonator on, more because I'm too lazy to remove it than for any other reason.

I took a drive and I have to say, between the intake and the y-pipe, it sure SOUNDS and FEELS like there is a good bit more power on tap, and I'm not sure my wife will even notice any difference since she drives the car "easy". As I mentioned above, drive it easy and it sounds little different than it did with the original y-pipe and intake. I little bit different, sure, but not so much that most people would even notice.

check my homepage. i left the box and accordian before the MAF and got a MAF adapter and just hooked the filter right up. unfortunatly the MAf adapter was for the wrong car and had to do some drilling mods to make it fit along with alot of silicon.
