20's on a maxima???

I was wondering if you can put 20's on a 97 maxima with 225/35/20 tires without the wheels rubbing. If so can the wheels have a lip on them? About a one inch lip, just so the rims are flush with the fender, not sucked in. What about when you turn hard, will they rub the wheel well? I was told at a tire shop the biggest you put on is a 19" rim, but I didn't ask what size tire? I have 18's right now with a 225/40/18 and I think there is only a 1.2" difference between the two tires.
