First off, i deliver pizza on the outskirts of my city, which gives some nice main roads that are still 2 and 3 lanes each way, but very open with speed limits of 55, and alot of lights. basically they run through corn and soybean fields, and next to the airport. so the danger is minimal (as far as street racing goes anyway).

My vehicle is a 96 GXE 5-speed, with no performance mods as of yet... only some heavy 17" wheels.

first up was the vette. this was a 68-82 stingray... which obviously came with a wide range of power and trans options. If i were to guess, id say it was an early 80s model, but who knows. anyway, i'd never raced one before, but i had seen a friend in an integra give one a run for its money before getting beaten, so i jumped at the opportunity. the car sounded and looked stock. we got stopped at the light and he looked over for a second. the light went green and i wasnt really sure if he wanted to go, so i got on the gas easy as did he, we kept on looking over at eachother, wondering who would punch it first. luckily we got another red light, and it was on. light went green and he pulls ahead so my front bumper is about even with his rear bumper... 40 mph rolls around and its the beginning of the end for him.... i pulled even by 60, and about a length by 80. by 95 i had him by 2 lenghths. he never looked over at me once, i however was looking at him most of the time. i decided that 95 was about enough... i dont relish the idea of speeding tickets (then why do i race at all? hmmm) he slowed too, but still alot faster than me flew by me, and never gave me a look. i gave a wave to indicate a good race as he went by, but i guess he was pissed that i'd run him and he probably didnt see it. Keep in mind, i AM aware that this may have been an auto, and that vettes in the late 70's could have as little as 150 hp and 7:1 compression... i dont think this one was THAT slow, but it did get beaten.

2nd race was about 3 hours later, as i was going home from work. there was a tinted out SVT Contour in our parking lot running, so i assumed it was the guy standing at the counter as i was leaving. i asked him, and he said it was his. we got to talking, i introduced my maxima, he told me about his contour, only mod was a K&N filter. he told me about his other ride, an SVT Lightning. anyhow, i said i'd been wanting to race an SVT Contour to see how i'd fare. he said he was game, so we went out to the same stretch that the previous race had occurred at. light turns green, we launch and are very even through 1st, 2nd i start to slowly pull... shift at 6200, into 3rd, i pull a little more, about a 1.5 lengths by now. into 4th at about 90, and i have about 2 lenghts by now... i shut it down at 100... for the reason sited above. we stopped at a lit parking lot and talked for a while... he said he was suprised i had won, but knew that max's were fast and knew he wouldnt roast me.

Nice job man. Im suprised that guy had respect fot the Max, most people think just because they are 4 doors that they are slow. After I bought mine the first thing my friend said is "Why did you get a 4 door, I thought you wanted something fast?" So I said ride with me for a minute. Needless to say I changed his mind about the Maxima very quickly! The guys that I raced over the past few days had absolutely no respect for the Max until after I beat 4 of their cars. LOL Im doing the BrianV mod tomorrow before I get my CAI and see how I like that. That should help me. Maybe ill have a rematch with the Eclipse GSX and see if I can pull one over on him this time. I know its fun to beat Contour SVT's. I've smoked 2 when my car had no mods. It was all over after 2nd gear. Funny to beat the top of the line "suped up" car with a supposed luxury ride.
