Short Throw Shifter ?

I have a cosmo short throw shifter in my car. I have had it in for about 6 months now. Recently it felt loose when it was in gear so I tighten the bolt under the car, the bolt that goes thru the bottom of the shifter. Now my shifter is very tight to move and has trouble getting in gear. It also makes a sqweaky noise when I shift. Should I loosen it back up a little or is there another problem with it?

You tightened it too much. Get back underneath and loosen it up, then tighten a little at a time, get in the car and go through the gears. Once you have a desired feel. Stop tightening.

it's too tight, i did the same thing, then i went down again to re tighten it to my desired level. after that, i bought another nut and screw that one in to make sure it wouldn't get loose again.
