A couple of months ago I was involved in an accident in which the driver and passenger airbags were deployed. The car was repaired and runs fine but I still have to attend to the airbags. I bought a used set taken off a 99 maxima. I also bought a 99 airbag module. My airbag light is blinking however and I'm getting a whole bunch of codes when I diagonose it.

Does anyone know if I am supposed to change anything else? Also does anyone have a list of what the airbag codes mean?

First off, 99 had the option of side impact airbags on the SE-Limited leather package. If that module was from a car equipped with side impact bags, it's not going to work on yours. Make sure you have the correct one.

The airbags require a special torx driver to remove them. The passenger side bag is a PITA to get at. The module is under the center concole, twards the rear of the car between the two front seats. It's also bolted down with a special torx bolt. Once you've replaced the module and the bags the codes should be gone. If the light still blinks with the new setup, try to reset it with the door light switch.

 

I do have side impact airbags. The number on the old module matched the number on the new module so I'm pretty sure I got the right one. I've also replaced the air bags and connected the harnesses. I've tried to reset the computer several times and it still blinks.

I wondering if I have to change something else like maybe sensors (if the car even has any)?

 

Look behind the radiator support, down under the hood latch. There may be two sensors there, one being the outside temp sensor and the other could be the front impact sensor.
