I just bought a 95 nissan maxima gle. Its got a ton of miles on it but heard it was a good car so I bought it, and so far so good. Except a few glitches. Heres my problem. I am getting two codes from my check engine light. One that is the knock sensor and one that is the egr solenoid valve. Im wondering first if this is a large enough problem that I need to fix the car right away, and second which I should fix first. (If I fix the knock sensor will it fix the solenoid valve, and visa versa). I've done the homework on the knock sensor, and it doesn't sound to me like its a fix that needs immediate attention. Solenoid Valve? Anything you can give me would be great!

 

The EGR fault is probably tripping the KS code. Fix that first, clear the error codes and you should be OK. A faulty EGR also causes poor fuel economy.

 

Thanks NJM...How vital is the egr fault? I understand it will effect my engines performance and gas mileage, but can I wait a few thousand miles before I fix it if Im just drivin in town?

 

I had both these codes 3 months ago..my KS was only a month old, so in my case EGR solenoid valve was triggering the KS. My car ran very sluggish when I had these codes..Replace KS first, which you can do yourself and as for EGR solenoid, I would take it to a mechanic..Also this should help...
