If the speedometer still works, then the gauge itself is stuck or broken. The speedometer and odometer both use the same sensor to track speed and miles driven. So if the speedometer still works, that sensor is working properly.

You might try taking the cluster out of the car and using a little bit of lubricant. Some very fine oil like for a sewing maching might work. Blow any dust out of there first or you'll end up with a paste. Also, don't try and move the numbers because you might ruin the cluster as it may have an anti-roll back protection. Just put a drop in each of the gaps between the numbers on the odometer and trip odometer. Then just keep pushing the trip reset button over and over to work it in a bit. Pop it back in and go for a drive, hopefully that works.

If not, look for a gauge cluster on eBay, you'll find them pretty easy and you might even get an SE cluster with the white face. Good luck.

Did it happen when it was at like say for example 139,999 or a roll over point like that? I got my car at 135,000 kms. And when I hit 139,999 I was like oh cool I see it roll over to 140,000 but it just stopped at 139,999, and like you said the trip stayed too. Needless to say I left it for about 3 days and it started working again on its own. Talked to Nissan about it and they didnt know what to say except it needs to be replaced, riiiiight free kms Ill replace it when I sell it !

95-97 are analog. While you're at it, get an SE version.

You can get a new guage cluster on ebay for CHEAP!

I replaced mine a couple months back and it cost me $22 for the cluster with 16k miles on it. It is in perfect condition.

It wasn't a lot of fun replacing it. But, it might have been more fun if I was doing it for my girlfriend who might want to return the favor..........
