Quick Question, Ecu Stuff

i plan on stopping at CAI, y pipe, catback exhaust and ECU with possibly MEVI....the tech square has that rev limiter in the 6k's is this gonna stop some of my potential? or will it make no difference with the mods i plan to get?

stop at 6 k's? if so, i'd go for the jwt that goes into the 7 k's. if you really want, you can even have them place the limit at 8k.

The STOCK limiter is around 6.5k, the JWT can go as high as you want, I have my JWT set at 7.2k.

The TS ECU as far as I know for the 4th gens does not go higher than stock.

so the rev limiter, stock, this is the noob question, holds back your potential with y pipe, exhaust, etc...?

Well the MEVI only is really helpful at high RPMs, which is why almost every time you see a MEVi mod you also see the JWT ECU. So in short, yes if you get the technosquare you will be limiting your top end power and thus negating your MEVI mod. Just take a little more time, save some more money and get the JWt, it is only like 200 maybe 300 more right? If you are going to drop that much cash on mods, save 2 more months and do it right.

If you are not getting a raised rev limiter than why are you getting an ecu? A raised rev doesnt really benifit a max with just a ypipe and catback. The actual sweet spot of the power band peaks in the mid 5k rpm I believe. Only when you have FI, FI with mevi, or just Mevi would it really be benificial to get the rev raised. If you do raise it go for atleast 7500, thats what I would do if I could get one. But that is just what I think

Doesn't a ECU help all around? Not just with the rev limiter? I'm thinking of getting one for my 99 GLE. If it's just gonna increase my rev limit...I don't think it would be worth it. I'm new to mods so I don't quite understand all this crap. All I've done so far is a Frankencar intake and a Cattman Y-pipe, and a whole suspension setup...haven't done anything really with the engine. WHat other things does an upgraded ECU help with?

ECU does help all around, increased timing and remapped air/fuel ratios.
If you dont plan on getting th MEVI there is no need to get the raised rev limiter. The car will not build any more power past the stock rev limiter using the usdm intake.
Only having the MEVI will you see the benifets of the raised rev limiter. with the MEVI you are able to build power up to 7500 maybe past if you dont experience valve float.

Even thought the ECU upgrade raises the rev limited, doesnt it still cause the same damage on the internals cause your still in the red line? you've been allowed to due to the ecu upgrade and make more power due to the remapping of AFR and timing, but doesnt it still wear on the internals as if you revved into redline without the ecu upgrade?
