Nissan says knock sensor error is bogus?

Talked to nissan dealership and this person said that a knock sensor error is generally not the actual problem when you show this on diagnostic check. They want $75.00 upfront for diagnostic check. Other charges are totally seperate. Haides will freeze over before I go to a dealership. Any comments on this mechanics advice? I show knock sensor failure on my diagnostics. Any info. here will be apprec. Also, is there any place yall would recommend to purchase a knock sensor for a 97 maxima on th web or by mail? Thank you

The dealer is wrong.

You're getting the code, so replace the sensor.

A stealership near me told me the same thing. They promised that if I changed the knock sensor that the code would come right back. Well, I called them on their bs and replaced it anyway. The code went away and the power increased a lot. Maybe Nissan just doesn't want to admit that this is a chronic problem with our cars.
I got mine off of ebay from a seller called "yoshi" something. I think it was ninety dollars shipped. He sells them new in the box. That's where I would get one if I were you.

I have a buddy who is a mechanic for Infiniti, used to work at Niissan before that for 4 years.
He definatly claims that the Knocksensors for our cars and I30's are always going out. He replaces many of them.

I had my knock sensor code for about 3 months and I did the same thing I went to the dealership and they told me that its not the knock sensor its something else that is causing the code to come up the guy told me that 99% of the time it's not the sensor and they wanted to me to have it checked by them first for only $75.00 so Im still riding around with my cel on looking for a new knock sensor.

Because alot of times a bad 02 sensor or other type of sensor will trigger the knock sensor code... but our cars are pretty notorious for the knock sensor to die.

Ant is right. Our cars are knock sensor code happy. If the cel is on and the only code is the knock sensor than it is bad. However, if you have other codes such as an o2 sensor or crank sensor etc. than fix those first because I have noticed that the knock sensor code seems to shadow these codes even if it is ok.

You can get a pretty good idea if it is bad just by the way the car drives.

I have a used sensor sitting at my house if anyone wants it. Dont know if it is good because i took it off a parts motor.

Why don't everyone just go and buy a code scanner? Even me, a guy who does not like to change his own oil, has a scanner. So far it's been pretty accurate and straight forward. Got a o2 code...had it replaced...problem fixed. And you are right...the ks is a ghost code. I never got a cel, but the scanner caught it, had that replaced...problem solved. I may not like to get my hands dirty as much as some of you guys, but I really enjoy the fact that I can find out for myself, what the hell is wrong with my car. Satisfying somehow

If you have a flathead screwdriver and eyesight, you own a code scanner. Seriously, it took longer to walk out to my car than to turn that damn ecu screw and watch the CEL flash 3-4.

I think what he meant was that you have the check the ECU for the KS code

My bad, I read it wrong.
Sorry Ni_Nos_Maxima.
Not used to hearing the ECU refered to as a computer, even though thats basicly what it is.
