Custom Automatic Shifter

Hi All,

Just got a 97' Infinity i30 (aka Nissan Maxima!!!) and I'm looking at replacing the stock shifter for Automatic Transmission. Does anyone have recommendations as to what's out there on the market (that supports an overdrive button!!!), and where I might find them? My searches have turned up the following options:

Napolex LV-45X at http://www.napolex.com/*****.html , should definitely fit
Razo RA89/RA92/RA93/RA94, manufacturer website unknown, may or may not fit

The Razo doesn't seem to have an O/D button, has anyone ever been able to wire up a seperate switch (such as using empty heated seat button areas) to toggle O/D, is the wiring possible?

The Napolex is seemingly made for Nissan, and does have an O/D button.

Of course, I'm just trying to understand all the options (and the styles) before I make a choice that I'll have to stare at every day. So, what do you all have?

Thanks!

Looks like the Levoc is the way to go - thanks for the input.

I've looked up the Razo's, unfortunately I still don't see one with an OD button.

PKaiser: of course, this isn't a performance upgrade... but I don't need my car to perform any better than it does now! Some day I may change my mind, but for now I'm just trying to give it a personal touch.

isnt the point to have something cooler, for example a helicopter shifter, rather than a regular non-cool stock one ?

I don't think you were being rude...you have a right to your own opinion and you are not required to get a shift ****. As for the member who started this thead, he is interested in getting one. Why don't we try sticking to helping him, verse whoring up his thread.

yeah my one post really whored the thread.

i wasnt trying to be rude, but those big bling bling automatic shifters look really out of place, atleast the stock ones blended in.

I agreed you were not being rude. It does take only one flame post for others to start. I am a bit confused on your statement though. "big bling bling"??? I have never heard anyone call a Levoc shifter "bling bling" and it's actually smaller that the stock shifter! If you do what TJ Max and I did, cutting the rod, it looks very classy IMO. With my CF dash kit and Ebrake handle, it seems to fit in perfect. I've recieved many compliments.

Hey erty, how much did you cut off and how did you do it? Did you cut the top piece and save it, then weld it back on and if so was it complicated? I'd like to do the same with the Levoc Wood/Chrome setup. Thanks in advance.

couldnt have said it better...it looks CLASSY!!!! there ya go, its very stylish and looks good, as far as cutting the shifter, use a sawzall, or dremel and chop only the outer part of the rod, there are two rods,,,one is inside the other, i cut the outer one first, i cut in a circle, not difficult, and then u can put the shifter on it just to test...then i heated the top plastic piece off, cut the inner rod down and heated hte rubber part back on....i used a lighter.....and then u put the shifter on, dont forget to connect the od wires....its very easy youll understand what i did once u do it, but thats how i got it done....

Maybe you should save your money up for a dictionary...

He didn't ask your opinion of how you feel about the AM shifters and stock shift ****. He asked us to list what we have.

I also have the RAZO RA92A, and feel it flushes in nicely with my aluminum dash setup, just like erty's and his cf dash setup

I have the Levoc fake wood shifter same as erty except with fake wood. It matches the OEM fake dash wood pretty well. It sure looks a whole lot better than the stock one.

And how the hell does the stock one look better? Almost every car I knwo from a Geo Prism to a Camry has those fugly stock rubber plastic shifters.

i did mine the same way, but I used a pipe cutter to cut the outer rod.

pardon the mess, the flash really exploits me sometimes, lol

oh as a side note, this following pic bites, but if youve got lighting inside, it serves as an extra reflector for the lights, in my case makes my car lighting look MORE blue

I like LED shifter for standard transmission. Has anyone mod it for automatic transmission with over drive button? It appears to be a difficult task.

actually its not very difficult at all.......buy a switch or button from autozone or something, and mount it somewhere, connect the 2 od wires to both prongs of the switch.....then throw ure shifter on, u can mount the swich somewhere, and voila! ure done.....

I guess it's a question of taste... in my Infinity, a wood/chrome shifter will definitely NOT look "rice" - I guess to each their own, though.

I've had it with the ugly-*** stock shifter.... everything else looks classy, with this the lone exception. it looks like it came straight out of a Chevy Malibu! Thanks for the input everyone, time to get the Levoc
