96 GXE and ABS

Hello fellow max owners. I have a pretty basic question I suppose.
I own a 96 GXE that is optioned out with basically everything that was available to th GXE. My question is can the GXE has ABS? I know that it was available on all trims for the 97+ models (nissannews.com), but I thought only the SE and maybe GLE had it in 95/96 cause I always see them for sale with that as a feature. I ask because I just drove through some snow and the brakes sure felt like ABS. What should I look for to determine the presence of ABS? (like sensors near the calipers or something, I don't know?).
I read through the FAQ's to, but there was only a vague reference to "other options" like heated seats (which I have), traction control (no idea), and Abs, being offered on more than one trim level.
If you can shed some light on this for me I would greatly appreciate the info.
thanks, rordog

You have an ABS light? If yes, then you do have it.

Sounds like you and I have similar cars (what colour do you have?). Canadian Spec '96 GXE w/ LSD, ABS, moonroof, winter package, that weird cup holder, BOSE, full sized spare, etc. You can always just pop the hood and look for the ABS controller. Jeff's response is a sure, quick way. But for some reason if you still can't figure it out, check out motorvate.ca or PM me and I'll take a pic of what you're looking for.

If I remember correctly, ABS was an option on GXE on all years of the 4th gen

A friend mentioned it to me in the past and Yeah! I have ABS. When driving in the snow or rain around ~30 mph, a quick stop will tell u.

No ABS: Wheel sliding, wheels are not spinning and your brakes are lock

ABS: Breaking like crazy, but the wheels still spining. A plusing burst felt on the brakes. The brakes are not lock.

Is kind of scary when I tried to brake and is not stopping.

The ABS feel is unmistakeable. I know I felt it in the snow the other day, but there is no light on the dash. Or at least no light that goes on during preignition or startup. I wrote Jumbo so mayber he can solve this for me.
thanks everybody, I gotta go to class.
