After reading through roughly 20 pages of threads, I'm still not 100% sure about this. I just recently hit 100K on my 97 Max. It's running pretty smoothly with no major problems as of yet (knock on wood).

Now I've been reading more and more threads about people having a PITA with coilpacks and injectors. What triggers this? Should I just buy some as good measure in case they fail soon? Does each cylinder have it's individual coilpack? How much are they?

This might be a stupid question but which Maximas are the most likely to suffer from this?

 

99's suffer more from it. My car has 224k and I've only replaced 1 coilpack, no injectors.

I would not pre-buy coil packs. They are available whenever you need - as NmexMAX stated. Typical symptoms include ignition failure codes, hesistation, etc. Usually failures won't leave you stranded - so don't worry too much about it.... Coils are definitely not wear (like brake pads, etc.) items - so the adage "if it isn't broken, don't fix it" applies. They may require replacement at some point from use - but I wouldn't recommend replacing them as preventative maintenance.

NmexMAX would know more about that question than me, I haven't had a coil pack problem yet. But have replaced two injectors
