Drone with Y-pipe?
Drone with Y-pipe?
So I installed my Warpspeed Y-pipe about a week and a half ago, and it performs really well. One thing I've noticed though, is that when the car is running and all warmed up, there is a very noticeable and pronounced drone that occurs right around 2300-2400 rmps (when accelerating) and then disappears above or below those rmps...
My question: is this the "bees in a can" noise?? It's not the worst sound in the world, but it's getting a little annoying... Plus, I wouldn't know what to compare the "bees in a can" noise to, because I've never actually heard it on another maxima...
Another question: how could I make this go away? Any quick-fixes??

Sorry if I misspoke, but I DO have the stock cat AND stock cat-back, no other modifications to the exhaust at all except for the y-pipe... Any suggestions?
Thanks for trying to help by the way, I appreciate it

Shouldn't have any drone, jsut a different note, hard to explain.
But the bees in a can is exactly that, it's not a droning noise its more like a really large bee flying under your car. I recently put a warpspeed y after my stillen y, and the wsp was much more quiet than the stillen, and the stillen did in fact have that awful bees in a can noise.
Maybe you have an exhaust leak.

I dont have any drone. I did when I had a muffler only.
I thought the "bees" noise was some type of a hiss? I've heard references including hissing, buzzing, rattling, Chevy Cavalier/Lumina note, raspiness, drone, etc. At any rate, everyone seems to have their own take as to how the "bees-in-a-can" noise sounds like, so maybe some other people can chime in.
An exhaust leak could also cause a hiss. Try unbolting the y-pipe again and refit the gaskets. Next step would be to try exhaust wrap.
Either the flex section is damaged or the flex section is rattling around. This could possibly explain why the Cattman y uses such a small flex section.
Anyways, I have a slight drone at around 1,700rpm, but only audible when the stereo is completely off and when the car is moving. Nothing like that when I rev it.
How does it sound at idle? Hard accleration? WOT?
Maybe it's just resonance

It sounds fine at idle, and it even sounds fine about 10-15 minutes of driving while the car is still warming up.
It's when the car is completely warmed up that the loud drone pops in, right around 2300-2400, and then it's gone after that. This never happened with my stock y-pipe, could I just need a new muffler perhaps?

Mine doesn't sound anything like it.
Be sure to check if your muffler is rusting. Mine was causing the low rpm noise not the y-pipe.
i have the exact same noise as you. i will take a video clip now and post it later tonight. i have the stock y-pipe though. This droning noise is cuased by an exhaust leak. i turned my car on and had it lifted at the mechanic and i felt the air coming out of the parts where b-pipe and muffler was. also my muffler is VERY rusted and this is also what is causing this noise. I will be home around 10:00 so expect the video then.
peace yall

I don't have access to the search function
, but I do remember a bunch of people complaining about WSP B-Pipe fitment. I'm going to keep on looking for b-pipe threads just in case I made a horrible mistake.Right now I have a WSP y-pipe, and a 5th gen muffler FWIW. I'll see how it sounds with the new b-pipe and go from there as far as adding a dynomax muffler or something similar.
